Celebrating Africa Day through Creative and Cultural Industries
African Voices and Perspectives at IE University: Celebrating Africa Day through Creative and Cultural Industries
Africa Day at IE University was a powerful celebration of African voices, perspectives, and creativity on campus, co-hosted by the IE Africa Center, IE Campus Life, and the IE Foundation. This student-led event, organized by the IE Africa Club, focused on the continent’s growing creative and cultural industries, highlighting how African innovation and artistry are reshaping global narratives.
Throughout the event, distinguished speakers brought these themes to life, including Gurus and Griots Fellow Mimi Kalinda, a pioneer in African storytelling, Social Innovators Fellow Abisade Adenubi, an entrepreneur driving change through socially conscious fashion, and IE Africa Center Partner Anwuli Ojogwu, a champion of African creative industries and co-founder of Narrative Landscape Press. Their panel discussions offered an in-depth look at Africa’s evolving cultural influence, from fashion and media to technology and social impact, showcasing the continent’s capacity to lead in dynamic, globalized creative spaces.
The IE Africa Center plays an essential role in bringing these rich perspectives to IE University’s community. By supporting events like Africa Day, the Center amplifies African voices, fostering awareness, connection, and understanding. Students, faculty, and attendees were given a unique opportunity to experience Africa’s cultural diversity, and to see firsthand how African creatives are influencing art, media, and industry on the world stage.
The success of Africa Day demonstrates IE University’s commitment to inclusivity and to celebrating the unique perspectives that African voices bring to the global conversation. Through the IE Africa Center’s continued work, African creativity, resilience, and innovation are increasingly visible and appreciated within the IE community and beyond.
