About me

I am originally from Valencia, Spain, but have lived in Japan and the US for many years. I hold a PhD in Robotics Engineering and I have been conducting and publishing scientific research in robotics for about 15 years. When not teaching or researching, my favorite hobby to explore is music. I’ve always been a metalhead and played guitar in several metal bands when I was young. Recently, I’ve been getting more into electronic music.

Exploring the future of robotics and technology at IE University

Eduardo Castelló is an established expert in robotics and emerging technologies, such as blockchain-based robotics. He now brings his broad international experiences and a passion for the advancement of knowledge to IE University, where he will conduct research and begin teaching in the Bachelor in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.

Eduardo’s scientific journey took him across several continents before returning to his home country of Spain. Trained as a robotics engineer, he completed his Master’s and PhD degrees in Osaka, Japan, spending eight years in Japan’s rich technological landscape.

Following his time in Japan, Eduardo moved to the United States, where he became a Postdoctoral Fellow at MIT. For the past seven years, he has been affiliated with the MIT Media Lab and MIT Connection Science, contributing to cutting-edge research and innovation. Now, back in Spain, Eduardo can channel his extensive experience into new research and teaching initiatives at IE University.

He is set to teach primarily in the Bachelor in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, where he feels that, based on his education and scientific career, he will be able to make a worthwhile contribution. The Bachelor in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence offers students a comprehensive foundation in various facets of computer science and AI, including robotics. Eduardo believes that students will leave the program ready to further develop their skills in any of the fields that the bachelor covers.

When asked about the program, he emphasized the pivotal role of programs like this one in the contemporary tech landscape. In a world where tools like ChatGPT showcase the far-reaching potential of computer science and AI, understanding, investigating and innovating in these fields becomes essential. The program equips students to explore the vast possibilities of technology across diverse sectors of business and society.

Eduardo CastellóAs part of the degree, Eduardo will be teaching topics ranging from robotics and automation (including a hands-on lab component) to blockchain, cryptocurrencies and fintech. These subjects provide students with a diverse skill set, preparing them for a variety of possible career pathways.

Graduates of the program can explore career avenues in such areas as machine learning engineering, AI research or business intelligence and analytics. The degree's emphasis on programming, data analysis and algorithm design can open doors to a great many possibilities in our tech-driven era.

Apart from the classroom, Eduardo meanwhile is continuing his research into emerging technologies and their intersections with our daily lives. When asked what quote inspires him to keep learning and innovating, he quoted Thomas Edison: “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”

Eduardo’s blend of international exposure, scientific expertise and passion for technology is set to inspire and guide the next generation of IE students in the dynamic field of computer science and artificial intelligence.
