Lola García-Romeu

About me

My name is Lola Garcia-Romeu and I’m from Madrid. I consider myself to be a passionate and active person who likes to work—I tend to put a lot of effort into everything I set my mind to. In addition, I’m very sociable and I love meeting new people. On a professional level, I would love to help change things and promote a different way of working in the legal sector. In order to achieve this, I hope to make partner at a leading law firm in Spain.

Lola García - Student Story | IE Law School

“It’s entertaining to see how things as common today as cookie policies can affect our way of life, and how a clause that everyone clicks to accept without even thinking has a long list of regulations behind it, which sets many rules and can result in consequences for businesses.”

A career dedicated to solving tomorrow’s problems

Lola Garcia-Romeu has a very strong work ethic, in part due to studying at two very demanding schools in Madrid—Colegio Jesús María and Colegio Nuestra Señora del Recuerdo. Both schools stressed the importance of responsibility, something that has greatly marked Lola as a person. This level of responsibility led her to pursue a dual degree in law and business administration at ICADE. Upon completing her studies, Lola made the leap to another dual degree program: the Doble Máster en Abogacía y Asesoría en Derecho Digital y de la Tecnología at IE University.

Before submitting her application, Lola considered various master’s programs. She ultimately chose to study at IE University because it offered a teaching methodology more similar to that of the US system than the Spanish system, and she wanted to approach her education in a new way. In addition, the dual degree program would allow her to combine two topics that she was very interested in: law and technology.

Lola’s classes allow her to explore legal issues that she had never delved into before, such as ones related to the world of startups and data protection laws. For Lola, “It’s entertaining to see how things as basic today as cookie policies can affect our way of life. That clause that everyone clicks to accept without even thinking has a long list of regulations behind it, which sets many rules and can result in consequences for businesses.”

Beyond academics, IE University allows Lola to meet people from various backgrounds and make valuable friendships. This has been the case since the first few weeks of classes, when she had the opportunity to attend team building activities and theater classes that “opened up the group a lot,” Lola tells us.

“My classmates are an essential part of my day and they make this experience unique.”

In addition, when it comes to such a diverse class that adds value to the program: “To have people from different cultures in class is something that I have never been lucky enough to experience, but it really changes your way of thinking and opens your mind,” she explains.  Thanks to her classmates, the faculty of experts and the teaching methodology, Lola has noticed that her way of approaching issues has evolved.

This will undoubtedly help her achieve her goal of changing the world of law from within. As of now, Lola has already obtained an internship position at Pérez-Llorca, the firm where she would like to develop her professional career. During her search, Lola is grateful to have had the support of IE Talent & Careers, whose constant presence helped her resolve any doubts she might have had throughout the process.

For any future law student considering studying the Doble Máster en Abogacía y Asesoría en Derecho Digital y de la Tecnología, Lola says that they shouldn’t think twice. The few moments of stress students encounter in the program are easy to overcome, since IE University immerses you in a very dynamic environment in which you will be surrounded by hard-working people who are eager to learn. While it’s true that the program is demanding, Lola considers it to be a transformative experience that is very worthwhile.
