Talía Chau

Talía Chau is a corporate lawyer from Lima, Peru with big dreams for herself and the future of the legal sector in her country. She admits that pursuing the Executive LL.M. has been a dream come true. Talía chose this unique joint program between IE Law School and Northwestern Pritzker School of Law because it is “the perfect mix between knowledge and prestige.” She’s overjoyed to have the opportunity to learn from expert professors in the most up-to-date facilities alongside intelligent colleagues in one of the best universities in the world.

Most impressed by the intellectual challenges she’s facing on a daily basis, Talía is driven by the brilliant minds around her. She loves learning from her peers—drawn from all over the world—and finds that the academic debates in the classroom are as powerful a tool as the good friends she’s making both in and outside of the classroom.

Working as a Peruvian lawyer for most of her career, Talía is no stranger to challenges. She considers the lack of digitalization of legal procedures in her home country to be one of the biggest hurdles she faces in her professional role. Recognizing that Peru is one of the countries with the largest digital gaps in the world, she understands the difficulties that excessive bureaucratic processes pose for entrepreneurs and companies alike. Additionally, during the pandemic, Talía gave pro-bono advisory and came to find out that, in Peru, legal access is limited. However, her goal is to be Peru’s pioneer lawyer who will improve digital and legal access and fill these gaps.

The future is unpredictable, but Talía knows that thanks to the Executive LL.M., hers will be full of possibilities. The legal tools she’s acquiring throughout the program will allow her to continue leading legal processes with a global perspective. She strives to take her new skill set to the real world and support legal operations in Peru, helping it to become a more developed country.

Talía’s IE Experience has been nothing short of incredible and she would advise future students to be prepared to have some of the best days of their lives. To Talía, studying at IE University is not only an excellent experience academically, but also personally. She’d tell potential students to work hard, but also to relax and be confident that they’ve made a great decision in their choice of program. And she would also remind them to embrace the chance to network with people from all around the world, keeping in mind that not everyone will experience life the same way and building connections that will serve them well long after graduation.
