Giacomo Coppola

I am from Milan Italy, studied BBA bachelor at IE university in Madrid exchange semester at University central Florida growing up I developed an interest in marketing, as I have done a marketing internship at Tabasco (hot sauce company) in Louisiana US, right after my exchange semester but then, after doing an internship in sales at Expedia (online travel company) during my last semester at IE, I realized that because of my personality, sales is perfect for me so I decided to apply to all the big tech companies for a sales job I started working at Oracle (one of the largest tech companies in the world with 145k employees and 45 Billion USD in annual revenue). I moved to Dublin Ireland to work as Business Development consultant (BDC), supporting the sales organization in selling Oracle solutions in the Pharma division (Health Sciences Global Business Unit). I was the first BDC in the Pharma division in EMEA. After 1 year in the role, with successes such as top BDC results (over 180% quota attainment) and awarded "Top BDC fiscal year 2021" - I have been promoted to Field Territory Manager. I am currently the youngest Territory Manager at Oracle, globally, and since then grew my responsibilities. Today I am responsible for all Oracle Pharma sales in Southern Europe, Eastern Europe, Africa and Middle East. Having achieved 100% of my quota so far, and having won multiple new logos/customers, I am now collaborating with the development team to bring to market a complete new software product. About myself - I love playing acoustic guitar, sailing and travelling. By travelling I mean that, for example, in 2022 I travelled to more than 25 destinations in 7 countries (thanks to remote working!). My personal motto and brand is "NOFATE", meaning that we shouldn't wait for fate to happen instead we should take action and work towards the goals that we set ourselves. Absolutely nothing is impossible and a smile, enthusiasm and positive attitude are our tickets to the future that we want. The future is bright! My goal in life is to be able to look back and be proud of all the amazing memories I created with my friends and family in extraordinary locations. I will work relentlessly in order not to have any regrets of possibilities I haven't taken or fought for. A future of "zero regrets".

How did IE help you get to where you are today?

IE is an extraordinary place where I was able to meet people from everywhere in the world and opened doors to insights in the current job market, business trends and networks. At IE I met international students with experience in different areas of business, which opened my mindset to new experiences and new ways of thinking. I can tell that my practical studying approach from IE is working well for me today given the soft skills such as teamwork, leadership and communication are a day to day key to success in this work environment.

What is the best advice you can give to a young individual starting his/her professional career?

believe in yourself, aim high and have resilience. You cannot afford to give up. Also, avoid traditional online job applications, submitting CVs... do the work, investigate who is the hiring manager and reach out directly ask for an interview or referral... do not wait for things to happen, do your best to craft your own future.

What does the future have in store for you?

Continue growing my skills, learn as much as I can from the best people I now in and outside Oracle. Move up the ladder, and in parallel keep growing my investments and eventually opening a business myself. Personally, at some point move to the US and follow the American Dream!
