  • INTRODUCTION TO SUSTAINABILITY IN BUSINESS

  • CROSS CULTURAL WORKSHOP

  • WHO NEEDS A PROBLEM? WORKSHOP

This workshop is designed to stimulate thought and discussion about current and future challenges—and opportunities—facing teams. It will lay the foundation for thinking about elements of teamwork and collaboration inside and outside the classroom. The course comprises two interrelated components: SPLASH, an experiential and community project; and a workshop that will introduce key elements of team learning that students can apply beyond the classroom.

Decision-making and problem-solving are two essential skills for any business manager. This course will teach the basic concepts of analytical thinking, the most common and effective tools, and their practical applications to complex business situations.

The objective of this workshop is to provide students with an introduction to participant-centered learning and the case method, with a special emphasis on the three main learning stages: individual preparation, small-group discussion and large-group discussion. It will also include an introduction to the dynamics of group discussion. These will be analyzed and practiced using a short organizational behavior case study.

This session aims to help students better understand each other, create deeper relationships from the start and leverage the power of diversity. These skills seem easier said than done, but when solidified will lead to enhanced empathy, improved performance and a reduction in conflicts.

This session works in the style of a workshop—which involves active participation from students—with the goal of creating productive, fresh, experiential and stimulating scenarios to put into practice. Students will also develop strategies to inspire greater and continued personal, team and organizational performance.

This course aims to prepare students for success in a world where they will be held responsible for their actions. The course will build students’ understanding of what sustainability in business is, provide the evidence and motivation for why it is an essential business skill, and give them a lens through which to review and interpret the rest of their Master in Management experience. This ensures they better understand the role of sustainability at the heart of all business practices.

Cross-cultural skills are essential for today’s global professional world. In business, globalization has led to an increase in cross-border mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances and global expansion of firms. Therefore, managing cultural differences is key to achieving organizational objectives. Cultural intelligence and the ability to successfully navigate cultural differences in a global business environment can determine the success or failure of a business.

This workshop will focus on how culture impacts individuals and organizations, as well as how this influences cross-cultural interactions. Students will grow to understand the impact of culture on business behaviors and practices, and will gain practical skills that will be useful for their own personal and professional development.

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Define and discuss culture and cultural differences
  • Recognize the key factors contributing to cultural intelligence
  • Review models of culture and analyze the impact of cultural differences on business activities
  • Identify appropriate strategies for managing cross-cultural communication and professional challenges

This workshop provides an introduction to the mindsets, skills and attitudes that represent the foundations of the entrepreneurial process. These concepts are critical to every manager’s future career—whether they choose to create a new venture or become a corporate manager.

On completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the fundamental features of the entrepreneurial mindset, behaviors and skills
  • Understand the central role of value and creativity in identifying and developing entrepreneurial opportunities, either as standalone businesses, social enterprise, or as part of a larger corporation
  • Leverage the power of entrepreneurship to create sustainable and social value

Students will be encouraged to critically question, interpret and synthesize information through group work and presentations.

The course is multidisciplinary in nature and links to a number of other areas including finance, operations management, marketing and accounting. Students will be equipped with specific skills in the areas of data analysis, structuring decisions, building decision models, risk assessment, and decision-making under uncertainty.

It will familiarize students with accounting processes so that they can read and understand annual reports, and will cover the problems associated with accounting subjectivity and flexibility while evaluating the appropriateness of accounting policies and estimates. Cases also serve to facilitate the discussion of marketing problems in real-world situations.
