Innovative Startups and Global Investors Converge in Madrid for IE Venture Day.

On July 11th, 2024, the IE Garden was abuzz with excitement of the IE Venture Day – the culmination of IE Venture Lab - which connects startups with investors, corporations, and thought leaders from various sectors.

IE Entrepreneurship & Innovation Center selected 10 startup finalists and 12 runners-up from Venture Lab Semi-Finals based on their scalability, team expertise, market potential, and operational status, ensuring they are ready for the next big leap. After the pitches, the jury, comprising investors and industry experts, crowned Cacaok'an, a healthy cacao-based snack company founded by an IE MIM student, Paola Hernández, as the 1st-place winners. Karefull, a startup focused on the creation and accessibility of medical data by SST students, and Alumco, an alumni network platform by a MIM student, secured 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.

The event was enriched with keynote speakers and panel discussions. Highlights included the panel “Community-Powered Ventures: Impact of an Alumni Angel Network” and the fireside chat “Building a Unicorn: Lessons in Innovation and Growth.” Esteemed guests like Abdulrazzaq Alobaid MD FRCSC and Olivier Pailhes also shared invaluable insights on regional innovation trends during the fireside chat “Innovation in the Middle East.” Attendees also enjoyed pitches from the Kuwait Incubator: Health Tech, featuring top startups like ScansX, See2Hear, and Radguard. The Kuwait Incubator initiative is led by IE alum Neda Aldaihani, General Manager of the Sabah AlAhmad Giftedness and Creativity Centre.

“It is really a tough world being a founder. So, having a bit of community to be behind you can bring a lot of advantages. And thanks to IE Network, we’ve been able to open doors to quite a lot of different founders,” said Adam Mitchell-Heggs, IE MBA 2018 alum and founder of MM Angels, the angel investment network for the IE alumni community.

IE Venture Day is more than just a pitch competition; it is an international celebration of entrepreneurial spirit and a chance to give your startup the biggest boost. The IE Entrepreneurship & Innovation Center and IE Business School take great pride in the annual IE Venture Day and its commitment to business creation and advancement.
