    South Summit Madrid hosted top innovators to explore tech and innovation.

    IE University co-organized the 13th edition of the South Summit in Madrid, bringing together outstanding speakers, potential unicorn companies, and investors under the idea of ‘Human by Design.’

    Maria Benjumea, President and Founder of the South Summit, Diego Alcazar, CEO of IE University, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, Mayor of Madrid, and José Luis Escrivá, Minister of Digital Transformation and Civil Service, inaugurated the 3-day event with the emphasis on sharing the value of innovation and the importance of fostering the entrepreneurial mindset.

    The highlight of the first day was a fireside chat between Lee Newman, Dean of IE Business School, and Steven Bartlett, Founder of Thirdweb and creator of Europe’s number 1 podcast, “The Diary of a CEO.” They discussed the entrepreneur’s journey from startup to stardom, offering advice on balancing well-being and emphasizing the importance of learning from failure.

    “We have a Head of Failure in my podcast. And their job is solely to make my teams conduct more experiments than our competition every single month. Because failure is feedback, feedback is knowledge, and knowledge is power. The reason I’m sat here right now is because I have a higher rate of failure than most people,” said Bartlett.

    Every year, South Summit excels in connecting startups with investors and attendees with visionary founders. In 2023, the South Summit featured an investment portfolio exceeding $300 billion from over 2,000 investors, with more than 6,000 entrepreneurs and over 650 speakers in attendance. For this reason, Madrid has been welcoming this flagship event for 13 years and counting.
