Shaping Global Debates - GPC’s 2024 Activity Report highlights research initiatives & strategic partnerships
The Global Policy Center (GPC) has officially released its 2024 Activity Report, showcasing last year’s main lines of research and key projects on the most pressing global challenges. 2024 has been a year of profound global shifts—from the continued repercussions of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to power realignments in the Middle East and growing tensions among major powers. As a super-electoral year, with pivotal elections in the U.S., EU, India, and South Africa, political landscapes are evolving, demanding innovative, inclusive, and forward-looking policy solutions—the very essence of GPC’s mission.
This report highlights the main research findings and initiatives of 2024 regarding Future of Europe, Transatlantic Relations in a Changing World, Bridging the South(s), and understanding Global Perspectives with the creation of Latin America Observatory, along with the China Observatory and the Africa Program.
Throughout the year, the GPC curated and participated in high-impact projects that placed collaborative thought at the heart of its agenda. Among these are the ‘Transatlantic Bridge Conference’, the ‘Madrid & Barcelona Future of Europe debates’, and interviews with top professionals like Cecilia Malmström, former European Commissioner for Trade, and Enrico Letta, Dean of the School of Politics Economics and Global Affairs (SPEGA) at IE University.
Furthermore, the GPC has hosted key global discussions, including a panel at the Spanish Embassy in South Africa on ‘Geopolitical EU and US Elections: Impact on EU-Africa Relations’, which explored the future of transatlantic partnerships, Africa’s role in the evolving global order, and the implications of the 2024 EU and US elections on EU-Africa cooperation. The GPC, in partnership with the Club de Madrid (CdM) and the Centro Brasileiro de Relações Internacionais (CEBRI), hosted the ‘Global Bridges’, an official Think20 (T20) side event in Rio de Janeiro, where experts discussed the need for inclusive global governance, strengthened North-South cooperation, and multilateral strategies for addressing global inequalities and shared challenges.
The GPC actively participated and strengthened its presence in events organized by other think tanks and research institutions such as the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Spain & Portugal, the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs (CIDOB), the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), SciencesPo Paris – Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA), the Brookings Institution, Stiftung Mercator, the Trans-European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA), the European University Institute (EUI), the European Policy Institutes Network (EPIN), the German Marshall Fund, the Munich Security Conference, the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) and more.
The 2024 GPC Activity Report highlights its ‘Geopolitics and Global Risks’ Executive Education program, designed to equip senior and mid-career professionals from international organizations and public institutions with essential skills for navigating global challenges.
