Gonzalo Garland
Executive Vice President of IE Foundation
Born in Lima, Peru, where he lived until shortly after completing his degree in economics at the Universidad del Pacífico, where he began teaching after graduation. In 1984, he obtained a master's degree in economics from Stanford University, and in 1989 he began his doctoral studies at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a research assistant for professors Lawrence Klein and Albert Ando. In 1994, he moved to Spain and joined IE as professor and director of the Economic Environment area.
He is currently executive vice president of IE Foundation, a position he combines with that of vice president of Global Strategic Agreements at IE University. He is also a member of the IE University Management Committee. Before that, he was vice president of External Relations and director of International Relations at IE. He currently combines these management responsibilities with teaching courses in managerial Economics, Country Economic Analysis and Economic Development. His interests include emerging countries, financial crises, and the effects of an aging population.
