María Hernández is managing partner of the Compliance Department at Eversheds Sutherland Nicea and head of the Compliance Committee of the Latin American Law Firm Alliance of Eversheds Sutherland International. Prior to joining Eversheds, she was Pentair's head of legal counsel for Southern Europe and chief compliance counsel for Europe. She has also directed the Legal Department and the Compliance Department of the European and Middle East divisions of large multinationals. She has received various awards, including the award for best corporate compliance lawyer 2014 awarded by Iberian Lawyer, and the award for best company lawyer under 40 years of age in 2011 (Forty under 40 Awards).
She is an elected member of the Integrity & Compliance working group of the B20 Saudi Arabia (G20). She is also the academic director of the Global Corporate Compliance Master at IE Law School and professor of corporate compliance at the International Business Law LLM and Master in Transnational Business Law. In 2016, she was elected to form part of the Committee of Women Leaders of the Americas, an initiative of the Organization of American States and the Documentation Sciences Foundation.
She has a degree in law from the Complutense University of Madrid, with a legal-community specialization from the San Pablo CEU University of Madrid and a post-graduate degree in law and economics of the European Union from the Sorbonne University in Paris. She has lived and worked in several countries (Spain, the United Kingdom, Argentina, France, Italy, and the United States) and speaks Spanish, English, French, and Italian.
