IE Research Datalab Organizes a Minisymposium at ICIAM in Tokyo

The 10th International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM) was held this week at Waseda University, Tokyo. IE Research Datalab was there, represented by Dae-Jin Lee and David Gómez-Ullate, who organised the minisymposium  “New Trends in Education of Applied Mathematics, Industry, Technology and Knowledge Transfer”, in conjunction with Luis Vega of UPV/EHU-BCAM. The session aimed to provide a platform for experts from various backgrounds to share insights and experiences regarding the latest developments in applied mathematics education.

With the evolution of technology and the dynamic nature of the industry, there is a growing need to stay updated with the latest trends. The minisymposium included the following talks:

  • “How the last few years have reshaped teaching First-Year mathematics”, from Joshua Jordan Capel (UNSW, School of Mathematics and Statistics).
  • “Applied Mathematics curriculum in the 21 st century”, from Beatriz Rumbos (Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México)
  • “Experiencing Mathematics: Compute. Intuit. Imagine. Create.” from Amrik Sen (Plaksha University ).
  • “An innovative experience in a Computer Engineering programme”, from M. Teresa T. Monteiro (Centre Algoritmi, Systems and Production Department,University of Minho).
