Dr. Ruben Sanchez-Garcia is an Assistant Professor in the School of Science and Technology at IE University. He holds a BS in Biotechnology, another one in Computer Science, and an MSc in Biophysics. He earned his PhD in 2020 from the Spanish National Center of Biotechnology (CNB-CSIC) and the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), working under the supervision of Professor Jose Maria Carazo and Dr. Joan Segura. Prior to his current role, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher with Professor Charlotte Deane at the University of Oxford’s Department of Statistics while simultaneously participating in the Sustaining Innovation program at Astex Pharmaceuticals, Cambridge.

His research bridges machine learning and structural biology, specializing in deep learning applications for cryogenic electron microscopy and structure-based drug discovery. He has developed influential algorithms, including BIPSPI and DeepEMhancer, and has contributed to over 30 peer-reviewed publications in the field.
