Dr. Manuele Leonelli is an Assistant Professor in the School of Science and Technology at IE University, Madrid, Spain. He holds a PhD in Statistics from the University of Warwick, UK, and has an extensive international research background. Before joining IE University, he was a CAPES Postdoctoral Fellow at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and served as a Lecturer in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Glasgow, UK.
Dr. Leonelli’s research focuses on the intersection of Statistics, Machine Learning, and Decision Sciences. He specializes in developing advanced probabilistic graphical models, with particular expertise in Bayesian networks and staged tree models. His work bridges theory and practice, aiming to improve explainability and support data-driven decision-making in complex systems.
He has authored over 30 research publications in leading journals and international conferences, making significant contributions to areas such as probabilistic modeling, causal inference, and sensitivity analysis. His research is particularly impactful in domains like healthcare analytics, sports performance analysis, and environmental risk management. An advocate for open-source software, Dr. Leonelli has developed tools that enhance the use of Bayesian networks and sensitivity analysis techniques in both academia and industry.
From 2019 to 2023, he served as the Editor of Bernoulli News and is currently a member of the ELLIS Society. Dr. Leonelli’s international experience and commitment to collaborative research underline his dedication to advancing statistical science and its real-world applications.
