Daniel Precioso, postdoctoral research fellow at IE Datalab and Lead data scientist of Canonical Green, presented a pitch on the European Parliament presenting the Green Navigation project, funded by the BBVA Foundation and led by Prof. David Gómez-Ullate.
The Green Navigation project was selected among the 100 most innovative solutions in Europe to accelerate the ecological transition by The Arch initiative. Within these 100 startups, only 5 were chosen to deliver a pitch in the European Parliament, and Green Navigation was selected as one of them.
While acknowledging the industry’s ongoing efforts to explore alternatives to fossil fuels, such as green hydrogen and sail-powered vessels, Daniel stressed the importance of immediate action. Green Navigation is a solution that empowers shipping companies to reduce their emissions by 5% while ensuring safer journeys for all. Notably, Green Navigation requires nothing more than a computer on board and Internet access to perform the necessary computations, making it a cost-effective and accessible tool that can be seamlessly integrated into existing operations. The core technology is based on data science, machine learning and mathematical optimization, and it is one of the active research projects at IE Research Datalab, as well as one of the main topics of Daniel Precioso’s PhD thesis.
