About me

Adrián Farto Garea was born in León, Spain and completed a bachelor’s in Law, as well as a master’s in Law, at the University of Leon (Spain). After graduation and two years of professional experience, he decided to enroll in the Máster en Derecho Transnacional de los Negocios (transnational business law) at IE Law School. He soon claimed his spot on the Dean’s List, as he made his way to the top of his class.

Upon completion of his studies at IE Law School, Farto Garea joined Mavens at the Corporate Law and M&A Department, where he takes part in both national and international operations.

For Farto Garea, the most valuable aspect of the program was the diversity he found with classmates from different parts of the world, as well as the quality of the professors who taught the classes.

Why did you decide to do the Máster en Derecho Transnacional at IE?

Today we live in a world where borders don’t exist for businesses, and where clients need their lawyers to be aware of issues involving more than one jurisdiction.

After looking at all the possibilities, I concluded that the Máster en Derecho Transnacional de los Negocios would give me the knowledge and skills I’d need for professional success.

What has been the most important project in your career?

In our profession, each day represents a new challenge. If I had to pick one project that stood out for me it would be the leveraged buyout operation involving lawyers and companies from more than three jurisdictions. We had to do a lot of tough negotiating, but in the end everything was resolved successfully.

What stands out from your experience (both professionally and personally) at IE Law School?  Are there any stories you’d like to share?

The ten months of the program was a very intense experience. Day after day, you have to work with your classmates to resolve many different types of cases. It’s always worth it, though, because everything is based on real-world examples.

This gets you fully involved in the master’s, while providing you with extensive legal knowledge as you form close, personal relationships with your classmates.

What was the most valuable lesson you learned in the master’s program that you apply to your professional life today?

The most valuable lesson I learned in the master’s program was that enthusiasm for what you do and teamwork are the keys to success.

What skills and knowledge have you acquired since doing the master’s program?

All the subjects of the master’s helped me acquire a deeper knowledge of Spanish legislation, as well as an introduction to English and French legislation.

Likewise, the MBA module allowed me to acquire the necessary knowledge to meet clients’ needs when advising them on corporate operations.

What opportunities arose during your time at IE Law School?

I believe that with IE, you get what you give. During and after the master’s there are countless activities that make you feel like you are an important part of the IE community. You can meet a lot of people and grow as a person.

There are so many different IE clubs you can join and activities you can do, such as the legal clinic or legal competitions. At IE, the sky is the limit.

How did the program help you to access the job market, and what do you currently do?

During the master’s we had the opportunity to visit different law firms such as Mavens, Broseta, Ontier and Pérez-Llorca. Also, most of our professors were lawyers from some of the top Spanish law firms. This experience really gives you a competitive edge in the job market.

In my case, I was hired at Mavens, where I currently work as a lawyer in the Corporate Law and M&A Department.
