About me

My name is Beatriz García López, and I consider myself to be a woman full of initiative. I’m fun, hard-working and eager to take on new challenges. I’ve always liked meeting new people, which is why I began my studies at Comillas Pontifical University almost five years ago. After all this time, what I value most are the great colleagues I have and the extensive knowledge I've gained—not only in a legal sense, but also on a personal level.

Later, I decided on a change of scenery and started the Doble Máster de Acceso a la Abogacía y Asesoría Fiscal de Empresas at IE Law School, which gave me nothing but incredible experiences and lifelong friends.

"I believe that IE Law School is the best option to train as a professional."

What are your passions and career ambitions?

I love sports, and I’m passionate about organizing big trips to learn even more about the world we live in. I’ve had the opportunity to live abroad, so learning languages is one of my favorite hobbies.

In the long term, I’d like to become an accomplished professional lawyer and apply all the knowledge I’ve gained throughout my studies. I’m sure that IE Law School will make that path much easier and more fun.

What did you do professionally before you began studying the Doble Máster en Abogacía y Asesoría Fiscal de Empresas (LL.M.) at IE Law School? Tell us a little about your academic and professional journey.

I’ve always maintained that IE Law School’s methodology seems to me a very productive way of learning, and of bringing classroom studies closer to today’s working world. During my studies at ICADE, I did a lot of memorization for my studies without retaining much of what was truly important. Despite that, the knowledge I gained thanks to the great professors at the school helped me to grow not only as a professional, but also as a person.

Regarding my professional experience prior to the master’s program, I worked in a small law firm for a few years, and I also did a summer internship at the renowned Gómez-Acebo & Pombo law firm. That experience helped me discover the intensity of the legal world and just how challenging it is. However, far from just scaring me, the internship motivated me much more to rise to the challenge of whatever comes my way.

Why did you choose IE Law School for your Doble Máster en Abogacía y Asesoría Fiscal de Empresas? What motivated you to choose this specialization?

IE Law School’s prestigious reputation was what motivated me to study the program. Also, many friends of mine had already studied at IE Law School, and they’ve always spoken very highly of the friendly and international atmosphere and how much they’ve learned. Put all that together, and that’s why I chose to study at IE Law School.

As for why I decided to major in tax consultancy, it was a subject that particularly caught my attention during my undergrad. Even after considering other specialties, it seemed to me that the tax world was a little different from the “norm” in the world of law. I wanted to go for a more specific option that would offer great job opportunities, in addition to the fundamentals that the Máster de Acceso a la Abogacía provides. In the end, it looks like I made the right bet.

What have you liked most about the program?

I’d say that it has been a mix between the distinctive work method that we use—the case method—together with the friends and colleagues that I’ve come away with after this year. The personal side of things is crucial for me, so the support, effort and motivation that I’ve gained from this program is incomparable to what I would have had anywhere else. I feel incredibly grateful.

Where would you like to work after completing your master’s? And how is IE Law School helping you achieve that goal?

After months of selection processes, I’ll finally be starting a position as Junior Tax Lawyer at EY (Ernst & Young). I have to say that IE Law School does an outstanding job of helping its students throughout this process. They helped me to get in touch with a lot of firms and meet great people during the interviews. They even helped me with all the paperwork involved in formalizing the internship.

What advice would you give someone who’s considering the program?

I would recommend that they take the chance. Your effort and dedication in the master’s are rewarded day after day.

How would you sum up your experience at IE Law School?

It’s especially difficult to describe this year in just a few words. At the beginning, taking on new challenges is always difficult, but honestly, today I truly believe that everything I’ve learned and the way IE Law School does things is what really makes it the best choice to train as a professional.

But it’s not only that. It offers a thousand activities, projects and initiatives you can participate in that will help you get to know yourself. I will always remember the year I spent at IE Law School with a smile on my face and wishing I could live this experience again and again.
