About me

I come from Salamanca, a medieval city two hours away from Madrid, known for its historic monuments. I love traveling and spending time with my loved ones and friends. I would describe myself as a determined, versatile and outgoing person. My career aspirations are to become a resourceful professional in the legaltech field, capable of not just adapting to changes, but leading and shaping them.

A holistic approach to law, technology and intellectual property

Celia Muñiz Hernández | IE Law School

In her role as a notary assistant, Celia Muñiz has developed problem-solving skills including, in her own words, “a keen eye for detail and an ability to navigate legal issues with ease.” However, she’s driven by higher aspirations, describing herself as committed to finding “meaningful solutions for new challenges posed by AI and the data economy, ensuring that technology continues to improve our legal frameworks.”

Prior to studying at IE Law School, Celia was busy preparing for the entrance exam (oposición) for the Spanish Diplomatic Corps. This meant dedicating herself to intensive study, with little time to pursue her career goals. Her choice of IE Law School for the Master of Laws (LL.M.) was due to the program’s practical, entrepreneurial approach. It was, she says, “not solely about theoretical knowledge from books, but rather about acquiring the practical skills needed for the real world.” This approach aligned perfectly with her desire to gain the hands-on experience she needed to progress her career.

Celia describes her time in the program so far as “a revitalizing and life-changing opportunity.” Meeting a diverse group of people from all over the world has, she says, not only broadened her perspective, but also fostered a collaborative environment. In her class of 30, there are 20 different nationalities, which she feels creates a dynamic, stimulating environment.

Another factor which Celia feels makes the program special is the opportunity for interaction with “top-notch professionals.” This, she feels, is a particular advantage in the field of intellectual property and technology law, offering “unique insights that go beyond the book.” She’s also been impressed by the level of participation IE Law School offers its students—in clubs, conferences and even podcasts.

For Celia, the standout benefit of the program is its holistic approach. “You delve into the connections between law, business and economics,” she explains, “which helps you to disentangle the complexities of navigating international jurisdictions.” On the other hand, there’s a practical dimension to the program through the career and professional development offerings which help students to prepare for job searches and interviews, as well as the Legal Immersion Week, which provides further valuable hands-on experience. The Master of Laws, she says, represents “an ideal launchpad” for an international legal career.

How does Celia envision her future after completing the Master of Laws (LL.M.)? Describing her future self as “a well-rounded and resourceful professional,” she aims to achieve a holistic understanding of the dynamic interplay between law, technology and intellectual property. Her ideal workplace, she says, would be a specialized law firm in the realm of intellectual and property law.

Celia sums up her experience so far as “refreshingly distinctive” and describes the Master of Laws (LL.M.) as “not merely another master’s degree,” but an invitation to think outside the box and to push traditional boundaries. She says the standard of teaching encourages students to become the best they can be.

For anyone considering enrolling in the program, Celia recommends “being active and proactive.” She encourages others to embrace the opportunities which the diverse, global IE Community offers to grow both academically and culturally. Emphasizing that her own experience has been “an invaluable journey” so far, her advice to others is unequivocal. “This year could easily become one of your most enriching experiences both academically and personally, so get involved and connect beyond the books.”
