Diego Zubirán
My name is Diego Zubirán and I have a two bachelor’s degrees in law. My first is from the Panamericana University in Mexico, my home country. I later went on to earn my second at Nebrija University in Madrid. I was fortunate enough to receive the IE Latin America Scholarship, which has given me the opportunity to study the Doble Máster Universitario en Abogacía y Procura + Asesoría Jurídica de Empresas (LL.M.) at IE Law School.
Although studying is my top priority, I think dedicating time to the activities you enjoy is equally important. That’s why I try to meet up with my friends every Sunday to play padel.

Law as a means of solving social issues
Ever since he can remember, Diego Zubirán has been passionate about the social component of the legal world. He sees law as an essential tool for solving different problems, which is why he believes lawyers must have a versatile profile and always remain in touch with the business world. That said, it’s no surprise that for his master’s degree, Diego chose IE Law School—an institution that stands out for its connections to the business market.
As a native of Mexico, Diego received the IE Latin American Scholarship and is now studying the Doble Máster Universitario en Abogacía y Procura + Asesoría Jurídica de Empresas (LL.M.) in Madrid. He is finding the experience to be challenging, enriching and fun. Although it took some time for him to adapt to the university’s hands-on approach and use of case studies, Diego feels he is a much more capable lawyer now compared to when he started.
What he likes most about the dual degree program is how it addresses companies’ evolution over time, as well as the most up-to-date innovations in the field of business. Apart from the content of the program, Diego also highlights the wide range of diversity in both nationalities and perspectives represented in the classroom, which is most noticeable when discussing cases as a group. “Multiculturalism allows you to hear different opinions, which I find very enriching,” he explains.
Additionally, IE Law School takes a strong, practical approach to education. Students face situations similar to those they will tackle when they step into the world of work, all under the guidance of professors who are active professionals in the field. “More than being excellent academics, our professors are able to teach by example because they are the ones who are in direct contact with the cases,” says Diego. He goes on to add that this provides students with useful knowledge in conflict resolution.
In the next few years, Diego would like to start working in a firm where he can continue his path of professional growth and enhance his profile. To find the perfect fit, Diego can count on the resources from the IE Talent & Careers team, without whom he believes that, “it would be a lot more difficult to be in contact with the human resources teams of different firms.” IE Talent & Careers not only organizes job fairs and group sessions to prepare students for the selection process, the department also offers access to individual advisors who give students tools and tricks to help them feel confident in interviews and enhance their resumes.
For all these reasons, as well as the resources provided to students like access to technological tools and an extensive digital library, Diego wouldn’t hesitate if asked to recommend IE Law School to other lawyers looking to specialize in the legal environment. He would advise future dual degree students not to overlook all of the activities on offer at IE University. “I think it’s worth researching all of the conferences and job fairs out there. I find them to be essential additions to my studies.”
