"The Master of Laws (LL.M.) makes a lot of sense and is guiding me on my way towards my future."

What was your career like before starting the Master of Laws (LL.M.) at IE Law School? Tell us a bit about your academic and professional background.

I studied a Bachelor of Laws in London, at the University of Westminster. Coming from Spain, at first it was quite a challenge to understand common law and the study method, which is much more practical and based on cases.

Why did you choose IE Law School for your Master of Laws (LL.M.)?

I wanted to continue my studies in English. I was certain that I wanted to study in Madrid and due to the university’s prestigious reputation and the specialty it offered in intellectual property, it was a perfect fit for me.

What do you like most about the program?

The wide variety of subjects we study, which give us a particularly comprehensive and international point of view in practically all areas of law.

Tell us why you chose the specialty of Intellectual Property and Technology Law.

This specialization seemed like the perfect way to combine law with the world of fashion.

What challenges are you encountering, what do you like most about this specialty and what does it contribute to your personal academic path?

The biggest challenge, in my opinion, is the sheer volume of work we have each week. However, I know this will be very positive in the long run since, in a way, the demanding nature of the program prepares us for our professional lives—we’ll complete the program already accustomed to hard work.

Tell us something that surprised you about IE Law School and the program you’re currently studying.

What has impressed me the most is the support that students receive from renowned professionals in our fields of study, whether through an individual mentor, a career advisor or the Talent & Careers team. What has surprised me the most about the program is the importance given to participation in class and how this is reflected in our final grade.

Where would you like to work after completing the program?

I would like to work in an international company as a fashion lawyer.

How is IE Law School helping you achieve that goal?

They help us with frequent workshops and information on how to get the most out of our CV and LinkedIn, as well as the importance of networking. And through the Experience Week.

Tell us something that you have recently learned at IE Law School that others could find useful and that you’ll take with you at the end of the program.

That first impressions are deceiving and that it’s of vital importance to make the most of all the opportunities that life puts before us, because you never know where they may lead.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering studying this program?

Take it seriously and be prepared to work hard if you want a big reward in return. IE Law School is a catapult to success.

Where do you see yourself in five or ten years?

Moving up in my professional career.

How would you sum up your experience at IE Law School?

Although I’m still halfway through the program, I would describe it as a very intense and enriching experience. I am putting everything I learned in my Bachelor of Laws into practice, broadening the knowledge I already had about different branches of law and acquiring totally new skills that I didn’t think I would be able to master.

Would you like to add anything about the experience or the specific projects of your specialty?

Only that, at least in my case, everything I’m learning in the Master of Laws (LL.M.) makes a lot of sense and is guiding me on my way towards my future. Five months ago, I wasn’t at all sure about my future—not even the short term. Now I know what path I want to follow and what steps I need to take to achieve what I want. So, I’ve decided that when I finish the program, I will start preparing for the official solicitor exam in September. I had completely ruled out that idea but, thanks to the personalized guidance I’ve received, I understand that it’s essential for my career.
