About me

My name is Lorenzo Esteban Manjón and I have a law degree from the University of Deusto. I consider myself passionate about economics, political science and, of course, law. Throughout my time as an undergrad, I was able to take part in various activities, such as the Debate Club, as well as establishing the European Law Students’ Association’s presence on campus. In addition, I had the privilege of being selected as the student delegate for my faculty and participating in the National Council for Law Students.
Likewise, I discovered that my passion was, and is, business law—so there’s no better place to develop this further than IE Law School. Consequently, in 2018 I decided to study IE Law School’s Doble Máster en Abogacía y Asesoría Jurídica de Empresas (LL.M.). This decision was one of the best I’ve ever made in my life. This master’s is both a professional and personal challenge, but once you've finished, you undoubtedly know it was worth it.
After having received the distinction of Best Student of my graduating class, as well as being named to the Dean's List, I joined the Arbitration, Litigation and Business Criminal Law Department at Uría Menéndez.

Why did you choose to study this program at IE Law School?

Essentially, I chose it because of the institution’s values. In a world where change is all there is, IE Law School prepares you to rise up to the challenge by not only using technical skills, but also more “social” skills, known as soft skills.

What’s the best thing you have taken away from IE Law School?

Besides the solid legal training I received, I’d emphasize that the best thing I can take away from the experience has to be my classmates. Today I have great friends who I still continue to meet up with. Additionally, the majority of them are working at some of Spain’s leading law firms and as a result, I’ve also developed a large network of contacts.

How has your time at IE Law School helped you better integrate into the business world?

In my case, I started my master’s already knowing I’d have a job after graduating, but the Careers Department remains present in the lives of all alumni, for which I’m grateful to IE Law School. If you need any help or advice, they’re always there to assist.

What are your plans for the future?

I plan to continue developing professionally in the firm I’ve started working for—and I’m very happy to do so. However, maybe in the near future I’ll pursue a PhD, provided it’s compatible with my professional work.

How was the road to being named the program’s Best Student and making the Dean’s List?

I honestly enjoy studying law. This program and its subjects pose an intellectual challenge that the student has to take on headfirst. Everyone makes mistakes, but whenever you do, you have to realize that they aren’t necessarily a bad thing—in the end, they provide opportunities for learning and growth.

So, I believe it’s been a journey marked by hard work, improvement and dedication. However, I’ve never pursued such distinctions. Happiness is achieved if you’re happy with your colleagues and the team you work on—they’re the key to success. I proudly accept the awards which happen to come along the way. In fact, I’m very proud to have achieved them.

What differentiates IE Law School from other law schools?

If I had to highlight two points, they would have to be the practicality of its programs and its cutting-edge faculty. Practicality because the program’s focus on case studies prepares you for the day-to-day realities of a large firm, and the faculty because it’s hard to find better professors—they’re game-changing leaders in their fields.
