Maria Do Rosario Soares | IE Law School

Maria Do Rosario Soares

About me

I’m from Lisbon. I finished my undergraduate degree in Law last year and I am currently doing a Master of Laws (LL.M.) specialized on International Dispute Resolution at IE University.

I would say I’m a calm person. I really enjoy traveling and tennis. Sometime in the future, I would like to work in International Arbitration.

Maria Do Rosario Soares - Student Story | IE Law School

"It’s a very good program. You spend a year in a great city being taught by great professors in a friendly environment."

Maria Do Rosario Soares

Why did you choose IE Law School for your master’s?

I was very interested in IE University’s practical approach to learning, as well as its international environment.

And what made you choose the International Dispute Resolution specialization?

I was very interested in international arbitration, and therefore the possibility of attending learning specifically about themes in International Dispute Resolution. At the same time, being able to have other general classes for a Master of Laws (LL.M.) seemed like the perfect option for me. I am very happy with my choice.

What have you found most interesting about the program?

Overall it’s been great to be involved in such an international and welcoming environment, and to learn from great professors. Also, the International Dispute Resolution specialization included an experience week in Paris, at the International Chamber of Commerce, which was a great opportunity.

Where would you like to work after graduation? And how is IE University helping you achieve that goal?

After completing my Master of Laws (LL.M.), I will return to Portugal to obtain the Portuguese bar. IE Talent & Careers advised me on what steps to take and they’re helping me achieve my goal.

What advice would you give someone considering pursuing the same program, and what are the most important takeaways from it?

I would say, “Do it!” It’s a very good program. You spend a year in a great city being taught by great professors in a friendly environment.

Where do you see yourself in five or 10 years?

Hopefully working as a lawyer in International Arbitration.

How does it feel to share such an experience with your mother?

It was great to share this experience with my mother, Rosa Soares. It made the experience even better!

How would you sum up your experience at IE University?

I would say it was a very positive experience. I think I was able to learn a lot and also enjoy a year in Madrid, which was great.
