Recently, students of IE Law School were invited to a roundtable discussion at IE Tower, “How do you start your career at a big firm?” Held in collaboration with ELSA Spain, a member of the largest independent law students’ association in the world, the event featured conferences and masterclasses with some of the top law firms worldwide in attendance.

Representatives from the HR departments at Uría Menéndez, Baker McKenzie and Ernst & Young were on hand to offer advice and insight in sessions covering everything from their selection processes and internships and other opportunities. Students were also able to discover the options for mentoring programs, the possibility of secondments and the paths for personal and professional growth within these national and international legal firms.

Being accepted into a large big firm can require dedication, outstanding academic excellence and sometimes extra qualities that make candidates stand out. Getting firsthand advice from people on the inside of these companies gives the students a taste of what to expect, and in turn, gives the firms a chance to get to know some prospective candidates.

This roundtable event was just the latest in an ongoing collaboration between IE Law School and ELSA Spain that seeks to maximize opportunities for law students and young lawyers alike to advance their legal skills.
