IE Law School becomes a new member of the Center for Transnational Legal Studies
Center for Transnational Legal Studies (CTLS) is a global association of leading law schools with a shared commitment to addressing pressing transnational issues and problems of international law and governance.
Founded in 2008, CTLS is a one-of-a-kind global association focused on legal education and comprising students and professors from more than 20 world-class law schools. The Center offers an unparalleled opportunity to participate in an intensive, semester-long program in international, comparative and transnational law, easily surpassing the experiences offered by any exchange or overseas study program.
CTLS is very diverse, innovative and multiculturally oriented; students are given the opportunity to learn in an exceptionally active and participatory way. The Center’s vision is ensured that, “The leaders of the 21st century’s legal profession understand law in the context of different legal systems and cultures.”
"To prepare for careers that transcend the borders of their home countries, students need to develop transnational perspectives."

In accordance with the Center’s stated mission, its activities aim to bring together professors, students and professionals from a wide variety of legal cultures to study international, transnational and comparative law. In doing so, it seeks to promote the following objectives:
- Recognize that globalization presents challenges related to the integration and coexistence of diverse objectives and values worldwide, and study the multifaceted roles that law plays in such developments.
- Promote the study of such law, understanding that it must respect and adapt to cultural, social and other norms in the world’s different societies.
- Equip students to be effective global lawyers in a wide variety of environments, with a deeper understanding of the role they will play in the future of transnational law.
- Advance theoretical and practical knowledge of the ways in which law serves many objectives, including distributive justice, civil liberties and global well-being.
At IE Law School, the study of Comparative Law has been one of the pillars of the institution’s educational offering for years. Soledad Atienza, Dean of IE Law School, highlights that this agreement will allow the school's students to develop their knowledge and skills further, positioning themselves as legal professionals in a globalized and multicultural world.
"We’re very excited to join the Center for Transnational Legal Studies to promote our focus on global legal education and innovation in the sector. This partnership reinforces our commitment to educating lawyers, jurists and citizens with a global vision in the practice of law."
