IE Law School is proud to announce a partnership with the Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA).

IE Law School shares the UIA’s vision of the legal profession, which is that it is global and multicultural and that all stakeholders involved should look for opportunities and spaces to promote the rule of law.

“As UIA, our ambition as Law School is not modest. We are not going to be the largest or oldest law school. But we want to be the one that has the greatest impact on our community and the society that surrounds us.”
Soledad Atienza, Dean of IE Law School

This global agreement is mainly reflected through several actions, most notably:

The UIA International Business Law and Human Rights Award in Cooperation with IE University: The UIA and IE Law School have partnered to establish an award for undergraduate and master’s students who have carried out outstanding Final Degree Projects on the topic of the connection between international business law and human rights. Each winner will receive a full scholarship to attend the UIA Annual Congress and a partial contribution to related travel expenses.

The 2nd edition of the UIA Business and Human Rights for Legal Practitioners summer course will be held in Madrid from July 10 to 12. The course is organized in collaboration with the International Human Rights Committee of the American Bar Association’s International Law Section, with the support of IE Law School.

This course, whose last edition attracted the participation of more than 60 specialized lawyers, provides legal professionals with an in-depth understanding of the latest issues at the nexus of law and sustainable development. It aids them in developing an appreciation of the human rights impacts resulting from business activities at the international, regional, and national levels, as well as providing guidance on how to carry out the corporate human rights due diligence process.

IE Law School wants to work with UIA building bridges between academia, the private and public sector in terms of research, professional opportunities for the students and also, to have a deep understanding of professional trends and hot topics in the market as well as circulation of professionals into university,” highlighted Eugenia Castrillón, Vice Dean for programs at IE Law School, who attended the 66th Congress of the UIA in Dakar.

She has been taking part in the panel, “The future of the legal profession,” in collaboration with Francisco Soler, lead partner at Garrigues for the communities of Valencia and Murcia; Fernando de la Mata, litigation and arbitration practice partner at Pérez Llorca; Hernán Andrada, partner at Santurio, Andrada & Noël; and Marita Dargallo, partner at Buigas.
