The II edition of IE Law School's Mentoring Program begins

115 mentors from 14 law firms participate in this initiative that focuses on the personal and professional development of students.

Interacting with established lawyers can be vital for law students approaching crucial early-career decisions. For this reason, on 31 January IE Law School welcomed the 115 mentors who will be participating in the second edition of the Mentoring Program with 115 undergraduate and master’s students.

This year, mentors come from 14 law firms: Allen & Overy; Ashurst; Baker McKenzie; Clifford Chance; Deloitte Legal; ECIJA; EY; Dentons; Herbert Smith Freehills; KPMG, Pérez-Llorca; PwC Tax & Legal; Sidley; and Squire Patton Boggs. In addition, we have the collaboration of alumni and Professor Javier Muñoz, Director of the Legal Department of Prisa Radio.

Among the main objectives of the program are the promotion of the development of professional relationships; the creation of a culture of continuous learning; and career planning, through guidance, expertise and experience.

At the event, Mercedes Blanco, Associate Director of undergraduate programs, welcomed the mentors, thanked them for their commitment and explained the main characteristics that define a mentor, including how their expertise and resources can best foster the mentee’s growth.

During the event, advice was offered and the GROW methodology -which encourages active listening and open questions in order to identify goals, analyse the current situation and draw action plans- was explained to the mentors. In addition, emphasis was placed on the benefits of mentoring, the flexibility when it comes to carrying it out, as well as the wide variety of profiles that the program currently has.

Finally, mentors and students were able to get to know each other over a networking cocktail.
