Sergio Verdugo, professor at IE Law School, named new co-president of ICON•S
ICON•S is the most influential public law association today, with scholars from all continents and one of the most popular annual conferences in the field.
Sergio Verdugo, professor at IE Law School, has been appointed co-president of the International Society of Public Law (ICON•S), together with Professor Michaela Hailbronner, University of Giessen.
Verdugo, a specialist in Comparative Constitutional Law and Human Rights, currently serves as Secretary General of ICON•S and will assume his new position in July 2024. He is also editor of the International Journal of Constitutional Law (ICON). Before joining the IE University, he was the Director of the Center for Constitutional Justice of the Universidad del Desarrollo School of Law, Chile.
ICON•S is an international academic society whose members include scholars in all fields of public law - including related social sciences - and from all levels of experience - from students to emeritus professors.
In 2024, from July 8-10, IE Law School will host the ICON-S Annual Conference on “The Future of Public Law: Resilience, Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability”, bringing together academics from around the world. Among its goals, aims to become a broad platform for the presentation of recent research, discussion forums, and opportunities to generate shared academic projects.
“I have been part of ICON•S since 2016. I have always admired the leaders of the association for being distinguished scholars capable of fostering a global and inclusive academic community. As the newly appointed co-president, our mission entails expanding the association, fostering increased academic discourse within the realm of Comparative Law and deepening the diversity and academic rigor that characterize ICON•S. Moreover, with the aim of enriching knowledge in public law transcending traditional boundaries and addressing topics less explored within the discipline, one of our priorities is to promote the interdisciplinary approach and the inclusion of young scholars hailing from underrepresented regions,” emphasizes Sergio Verdugo.
IE Law School takes great pride in this appointment, which demonstrates how its professors share and are responsible for driving the positive, enduring and deep intellectual impact IE Law School seeks to have on society.
