From Microbiology to Programming | Bootcamp Diary by Daniel Garcia

Hello, future bootcamper!

Our eighth week of bootcamp is drawing to a close, and I have some mixed feelings about this. The program’s pressure and intensity are starting to increase exponentially, but at the same time, all the information that we’ve been exposed to is gradually beginning to make sense.

Thanks to my background as a predoctoral fellow in microbiology, I started the bootcamp with previous experience in programming. Because of this, the first few weeks were a little less complicated for me. But as the weeks went by, Python and R exams were becoming more and more demanding. Luckily, with Pablo and Ivan’s help, we were able to work through those difficult moments.

On the other hand, our capstone project is reaching new heights as we make progress on our ML model. Additionally, our team accomplished one of our biggest milestones last week—we were able to visit the offices at Iberia to discuss the progress of our work. In this regard, Ivan’s classes in storytelling were very helpful for achieving the level of professionalism expected by our client.

I’m really happy with my decision to exchange academia for Data Science, and I can’t wait to learn the ins and outs of the machine learning models that we haven’t studied yet.

I hope I’ve helped you learn a bit more about the DS bootcamp.
