The Board Readiness Program consists of 15 sessions delivered over a five-week period. Sessions are facilitated by the esteemed faculty of IE Business School—experts with extensive industry experience—alongside seasoned board members invited to share their unique insights on each topic.

This program utilizes IE Business School’s innovative approach, combining live synchronous and asynchronous forums with case studies and peer-to-peer learning. Its rigorous academic framework and exceptional faculty underscore its importance as a standalone offering for those aiming to excel in boardroom leadership.

  • Upon joining the Board Readiness Program, you will have the option to enroll in one of two sessions when classes will typically occur:

    Morning session: 

    • Videoconferences from Noon to 1:30 p.m., and 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. 

    Afternoon session:

    • Videoconferences from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., and 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m

    Each session is led by IE Business School’s world-class professors, who will regularly invite experienced board members to offer perspectives that enrich program content. In these cases, participants from both sessions will come together in one combined forum running from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

  • Introduction to Corporate Governance

    This course provides a comprehensive overview of corporate governance structures, principles and the roles of key stakeholders, including board members, executives and shareholders. Participants will gain valuable insights into best practices for effective governance, exploring critical areas such as risk management, accountability and transparency. Understanding how these principles underpin sustainable corporate growth and success ensures you will develop the strategic leadership skills necessary to contribute meaningfully to your organization’s governance framework.

    Debunking Myths in Executive Compensation, Board Compensation and Remuneration: Balancing Incentives, Accountability and Performance

    This course examines the complexities of executive compensation, focusing on the balance between incentives, accountability and performance. Participants will explore various compensation models, including salaries, bonuses, stock options and long-term incentives, while analyzing industry best practices and regulatory guidelines. By assessing how different compensation strategies impact board effectiveness, decision-making and corporate performance, you will gain insights into the critical role of remuneration in fostering accountability and ethical behavior. Additionally, you will be equipped with the knowledge to design and implement fair and transparent compensation policies that align with organizational goals and stakeholder expectations.

    Legal Aspects and Compliance in Corporate Governance: Responsibilities and Best Practices for Boards

    This course delves into the legal frameworks and responsibilities governing corporate boards, placing a spotlight on fiduciary duties, compliance obligations and the relevant regulations essential for ensuring legal compliance. Participants will analyze the role of boards in risk management and compliance oversight, identifying best practices for assessing and mitigating legal and regulatory risks to protect the organization. Additionally, the course covers the development and enforcement of governance policies and procedures that foster a culture of integrity, ethical behavior and accountability within organizations.

    Transforming Corporate Governance: The Role of Diversity, Innovation and ESG on Modern Boards

    In this course, participants will explore the significant impact of leadership diversity on board effectiveness. You will examine how gender, cultural and experiential diversity enhances decision-making, innovation and overall board performance. The course also covers how the integration of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles into board strategies enables leaders to align corporate goals with sustainable development and social responsibility. Furthermore, you will learn how to foster a culture of innovation and adaptability within corporate boards to maintain competitiveness in rapidly changing markets.

    Governance Dynamics in Family Firms: Balancing Legacy, Leadership and Growth

    This course focuses on the unique governance challenges and opportunities faced by family-owned firms, exploring the interplay between family dynamics, ownership structures and formal governance frameworks. Participants will learn about the specific role boards play in family firms, balancing strategic oversight with the preservation of family legacy and values. The course will also emphasize the importance of linking succession planning with governance, highlighting the board’s responsibility to facilitate leadership transitions and ensure the long-term success of family enterprises.
