Juan has almost 40 years of international professional experience in business intelligence, corporate security, crisis management, risk management, organizational resilience and travel security.

He has exceptionally held senior positions on the three sides of the security industry triangle: service provider, client and consultant. During the 1990s, he was successively the Recruitment and Special Operations Manager, then Operations 2IC, of ​​one of the largest Spanish private security companies, and afterwards, the Security and Risk Manager for Southern and Eastern Europe of one of the largest global express freight transport groups,  forming part of the executive management committee. More recently, early this century, he was the CEO of a large security company with more than two thousand employees including some three hundred close protection officers deployed in the north of Spain as part of the joint public-private antiterrorist effort, and subsequently, international senior security and crisis management consultant and international senior security and crisis management consultant (a kind of embedded position) of a multinational Ibex35 company with operations worldwide and more than 30,000 employees. In 2006-2007 he was the Head of Security and Crisis Manager of the 32nd America’s Cup. He was later appointed CSO (Chief Security Officer) and member of the C-Suite of a large Spanish industrial company. This is an exceptional situation in the Spain´s corporate security world. Since 1997, he has been operating as an independent strategic and operational business consultant with practical experience in over 35 different countries. He is one of the few experts at worldwide level in crisis response for special risks.

He obtained his MBA from IE in 1996, where he has also taken several management courses, and is a member of a small group of Spanish holders of the ASIS International CPP (Certified Professional Protection) certification. He is former President of ASIS Spain (2013-2018) and former Regional Vice President (2018-2022) of ASIS International Region 9C.  He has also been the Academic Director of this ASIS/IE Effective Management Program for Security Professionals since 2014. He is also an associate professor at IE. He has been awarded with three White Medals of Merit in the service of the Spanish Army, the Civil Guard and the National Police Corps.
