Madrid is a city with an excellent transportation network, including metro, buses, and taxis. The metro is the fastest and more efficient way of travelling around the city. More information about the metro in Madrid is available here: https://www.esmadrid.com/en/madrid-metro.
To be able to use the metro, you should buy a single ticket (1.5 – 2 €) or multi-trips metro card (6.10 € + one-time issuance fee for 2.5 €). You can use the multi-trips card for multiple people and for both the metro and urban buses (EMT) in Madrid Zone A. You can find more information about prices and different kinds of metro cards here. Also, there is a supplement ticket you should purchase (for each person) when you want to exit or enter the airport through the metro, which costs 3 € per person.
You can purchase the ticket (and airport supplement) from the automated machines at any metro station. Also, there are always Metro staff there, and you can ask them for help. If you decide to buy the metro card, you can check the balance and re-charged through this application.
Here you can find detailed information regarding metro cards and how to buy a multi-trip metro card from automated devices.
