Mia Minic

About me

I’m originally from Serbia, but I grew up and lived in Hong Kong, although my professional career has been in London. My background is in real estate debt and I’ve been working at my current company for more than eight years, currently as an associate. I’m an analytical professional and a diligent and resourceful team player, and consider myself to be a naturally positive and inquisitive person.

“I feel like I have a much more comprehensive understanding of how real estate works as a whole, and a bigger vision of what I could add to real estate from many different angles.”

Mia Minic

A holistic view of real estate

Like many of her peers at IE University, Mia Minic has a truly international background. Serbian born but having grown up in Hong Kong, she now works in London where she is building a successful career in real estate finance.

Although she already has a wealth of experience, Mia Minic wanted to broaden her understanding of real estate from different angles. This, she feels, is what IE University’s Global Master in Real Estate Development gave her. “Even if I came in from debt, we got to think about ESG, or planning, or urban planning, or the legal aspect,” she explains. The program provided an overview of how real estate works as a whole, allowing Mia to appreciate the role it plays in a global context.

Delivered in a part-time format over the course of 15 months and through a mixture of online learning and face-to-face periods in Madrid and Mexico City, the Global Master in Real Estate Development gives students a holistic and practical view of real estate development. The final capstone project is a vital part of the program, enabling students to put theory into practice in a real-world environment. What made her group’s capstone project unique, Mia says, was their approach to funding and how they developed their concept, including the way they viewed their role as master developers of their site. Additionally, they had a very strong environmental, social and governance (ESG) and social impact focus.

Mia also valued the opportunity to work with people from different backgrounds—one of the advantages of studying at IE University.

“I really enjoyed the hard work, the challenging environment and just getting to think about real estate in a new way.”

For Mia, the value of the Global Master in Real Estate Development is clear. “I think so long as you understand what you want to get out of the program, and you also know that you’re able to dedicate the time and energy to it, it’s definitely a worthwhile program,” she states, adding that “It definitely does take you a step further in your personal knowledge and understanding, not just in terms of the material, but yourself as an individual.”

How would Mia describe the program? “The word I would choose is holistic,” she says, “because I think that the Global Master in Real Estate Development had an all-encompassing view of real estate and it really touched on every aspect.”
