UNESCO Chair in AI Ethics & Governance launches the Responsible Tech Salon series, exploring AI and human flourishing
The Responsible Tech Salon series will host several sessions in collaboration with IE University’s Center for Health and Well-Being.
The UNESCO Chair in AI Ethics & Governance hosted the first session of this year’s Responsible Tech Salon series, an event series that aims to discuss the ethical, social, and governance challenges of emerging technologies. These discussions are enriched by insights from thought leaders across various professional fields.
This platform is one of the core initiatives of IE University’s UNESCO Chair and contributes to its mission of fostering deep reflection on Artificial Intelligence from diverse perspectives and building capacity for the responsible development, use, and governance of AI and related technologies.
This year, the IE School of Humanities and the UNESCO Chair in AI Ethics & Governance are partnering with the IE Center for Health & Well-Being to host a series of sessions exploring the intersection of AI ethics and human flourishing. Some of these events will be held in person, while others will take place virtually.
This first session featured Iliana Grosse-Buening, a social entrepreneur focused on digital well-being. She is the Founder & CEO of Quiet Social Club and co-founder of the Responsible Tech Salon. The session highlighted strategies for fostering cross-sector collaboration, addressing the challenges of digital transformation, and ensuring that technology benefits individuals, organizations, and society as a whole.
"The idea of the Responsible Tech Salon grew out of conversations with members of the IE community eager for opportunities to discuss the personal, social, and political questions that AI raises," explains UNESCO Chairholder Ted Lechterman.
"The Chair has been happy to create a space for these discussions and to connect the IE community with experts at the leading edge of AI research and policy".

Lisa Bevill, Academic Director of IE University’s Center for Health & Well-Being, commented: "At the Center for Health & Well-Being, we strive to elevate awareness and reflection on habits that align with our values, enhance vitality, promote innovation, and build resilience for positive impact. The Responsible Tech Salon provides a forum to shape the narrative and foster dialogue about how we can take responsibility for positively influencing policy, technology, and systems. We are thrilled to co-create this space for awareness, dialogue, learning, and growth”.
