I’m Filipe and I come from Portugal. My long-held fascination for the social sciences and deep regard for principles such as fairness, equity and justice, propelled my decision to pursue a bachelor’s degree in law. This gave me a solid foundation of legal knowledge and critical-thinking skills, but also sparked my interest in the intersection of law with global and public affairs. My career aspirations now revolve around international dispute settlement, public policy consultancy and corporate lobbying, and my overarching goal is to make a substantial and meaningful impact on society within a challenging multicultural work environment.

Enhancing his background in law with an international outlook
Filipe Serrano Gama is a determined, bold and ambitious individual. With long-term career aspirations in international arbitration and public policy, he came to IE University with a desire to augment and refine his already diverse skill set, grounded in the belief that a comprehensive understanding of international relations would enhance his ability to navigate the intricate web of global disputes. “I sought a master's program that would complement my legal background while simultaneously enhancing it with a strong international outlook.”

Before coming to IE University, Filipe was already well on his way to setting himself up as a successful legal professional, with a host of impressive experiences already on his résumé. Amongst them was his selection as a delegate for an international forum hosted by the European Youth Parliament, which brought together representatives from 14 different countries. After conducting extensive research, Filipe proposed legislative measures to establish a legal framework ensuring fair working conditions and equal opportunities for internship seekers, which subsequently received unanimous approval at the general assembly. This is an achievement he is extremely proud of.
Other notable experiences include an immersive experience at the European Committee of the Regions in Brussels, a period shadowing a respected attorney in a top-tier Portuguese law firm, and, during his undergraduate studies, the privilege of being appointed as a legal research assistant to one of his professors. It’s not difficult to see Filipe’s passion and enthusiasm for his chosen field.

Now part way through his program, Filipe has no regrets about his decision to study at IE University. Outside the classroom, Filipe has found the abundant offering of clubs and organizations to be a stand-out aspect of life at IE University. “Whether your passion lies in entrepreneurship, sustainability, or any other field, there is something for you,” he says. He adds that if you have a specific interest but there isn’t a club, IE University Campus Life actively encourages you to take the initiative and start the club yourself.
