Justine Noël-Fournier
I’m from Montreal, Canada and would describe myself as a driven person who’s constantly seeking to learn new things. My academic background is in business administration, and I graduated in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in supply chain. I worked in IT for three years before deciding to pursue the Master in International Relations at IE University. I love that the program draws students from all over the world, and that I get to network and equip myself for a future career. The faculty and staff at IE University do everything in their power to set us up for success, and I’m so glad to have this opportunity.
"The best part about my IE University experience so far has been the people I have met. It is incredibly enriching to get to meet people from such different realities and be able to connect with them."
Shaping a career in diplomacy
Trading the snowy scenery of Montreal for the sunny streets of Madrid, Justine Noël-Fournier traveled halfway across the world to study at IE University. Currently enrolled in the Master in International Relations program, Justine is a driven individual who hopes to use her newly acquired skill set to forge a path in diplomacy or public affairs.
Someone who is constantly seeking new knowledge, Justine decided to leave her role in IT to pursue a master’s degree. Her academic background is in business administration, specifically focused on supply chain. And after three years in IT consulting and procurement, she was ready to see what the international stage had to offer.
Justine chose to study at IE University because the program attracts knowledge seekers from all countries and backgrounds, providing her with incredible academic and networking opportunities. And because most of the people in her program aren’t from Madrid and have moved here on their own, Justine feels that everyone is in the same boat, making it easier to make friends.
Though the master’s program is only one year, she likes that she’ll be able to choose a speciality and a specific region for her second and third term. The program is highly focused and honed into a particular area, allowing students to truly explore what they’re interested in.
So far, her favorite subject has been International Relations Strategy and Theory. Through the subject she learned about Game Theory—the analysis of how individuals interact and consider reactions and choices of others when making decisions. The course has also laid a foundational knowledge for her on basic international relations theories.
“I feel grateful to be part of the IE Community, not only for my master’s, but for the rest of my life.”
Justine loves that the university is constantly hosting events, conferences and workshops, which she frequently attends. In fact, part of the Master in International Relations program requires that students assist with conferences and events, helping them develop their knowledge and future career.
What’s more, Justine was given the opportunity to meet diverse companies and explore career opportunities at Career Day, an event held by IE Talent & Careers. She also enjoyed meeting local non-profit organizations and learning about volunteering opportunities at the Volunteer Fair.
As for living in Madrid, Justine absolutely loves how people are always outside. A self-confessed foodie, she has plenty of restaurant recommendations to give and highly suggests visiting the tapas bar Sala de Despiece. To her, Madrid is a city where you’ll always have something to do—whether it be going out to eat, enjoying one of the parks or visiting a museum.
Her experience at IE University so far has been incredibly rewarding. She particularly enjoys the interactive nature of the classes, where students learn by giving their own opinion and interacting with their lecturers and peers. She’s met plenty of new people and made friends from all over the world. Justine says she’s thankful to be part of the IE Community—not only for the duration of her program, but for the rest of her life.
