2023 Concordia Europe Summit gathers 75 key decision makers at IE University in Madrid

The threats facing democracies, the future of energy, cyber security, and diplomacy will be in focus at the international conference.

The 2023 Concordia Europe Summit is taking place today and tomorrow, June 15-16, at the IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs – IE University, Concordia’s Principal Summit Host Partner.

Concordia’s Concilium format brings together 75 key decision makers for a set of high-level, interactive, and closed-door conversations centered on the themes of energy security, cyber defense, and diplomacy. Participants will be polled following each session and their responses will form a crucial piece of Concordia’s 2023 Europe Summit Report, which will be presented to Spanish and EU leadership as Spain assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on July 1, 2023. The Chair of the 2023 Europe Summit is H.E. José Manuel Barroso, Concordia Leadership Council Member and Former President of the European Commission.

“It is a very exciting time for the Europe Initiative at Concordia as we convene our new Concilium format to cover critical issues facing the European continent around cyber defense, energy security, and Europe’s broader role in today’s geopolitical environment,” commented Concordia’s Co-Founder & CEO, Matthew Swift. “This new format will provide leaders from relevant sectors with critical real-time information on these issues, and I could not be more proud of the Concordia team and our Leadership Council for the reestablishment of this initiative. I’m also grateful to NATO and their trust in Concordia in developing this, as well as our Programming Partners and Sponsors – in particular IE University, an important educational institution for Spain, Europe, and the world.”

“In Madrid today we begin a set of very important conversations on global politics and business”, said Manuel Muñiz, Provost of IE University and Dean of IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs. “The future of democracy in a much more challenging geopolitical environment will be at the core of our discussions. The backdrop will be the Spanish presidency of the EU and also upcoming global elections in 2024 which will see millions of citizens vote in the United States, the European Union, the UK and India. Fostering a public-private dialogue on these crucial issues is vital. This is what Concordia does best, and we are thrilled to support them by hosting this summit at IE University," Muñiz added.
