IE School of Politics, Economics, and Global Affairs partners with Google to shape the future of technology governance and public policy education

Google becomes the academic partner for the new Bachelor in Political Science and the Master in Technology and Global Affairs at IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs.

IE School of Politics, Economics, and Global Affairs and Google have joined forces in a strategic collaboration to promote knowledge sharing, research, and educational initiatives in technology governance and public policy. This partnership will provide students, faculty, and industry experts with unique opportunities to engage in critical discussions and hands-on learning experiences at the intersection of technology and policy.

As part of this initiative, Google becomes academic partner for IE School of Politics, Economics, and Global Affairs’ new Bachelor in Political Science and Master in Technology and Global Affairs, both starting in September 2025, reinforcing IE University’s commitment to training future leaders for the digital age. Through this collaboration, students will gain access to Google’s expertise and resources, equipping them with the necessary skills to navigate a fast-changing technological landscape.

This collaboration, aimed at fostering student engagement in technology governance and public policy, will facilitate training in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies and enhance student access to Google’s expertise and resources in technology policy. Google experts will take part in masterclasses, seminars, and IE’s Immersion Weeks in global tech hubs such as London and Brussels. They will also lead specialized sessions on AI governance and public policy, offering insights into emerging technologies. Students will also benefit from experiential learning visits to Google for Startups Campus Madrid and Google Safety Engineering Center (GSEC) Málaga, as well as access to training programs like Google’s AI Essentials.

In addition, this collaboration will launch the "IE School of Politics, Economics, and Global Affairs - Google Series on Tech & Governance," a series of events focused on AI adoption, workforce skilling, European digital regulation, and other critical issues. Google will play an advisory role in shaping these new School’s academic programs - the Bachelor in Political Science and the Master in Technology and Global Affairs -, ensuring alignment with industry trends and career pathways for students. The IE Center for the Governance of Change will also actively support and enhance the School's academic programs.

“By bridging the gap between academia, policy advising, and the tech industry, this partnership reaffirms IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs’ commitment to shaping the next generation of leaders through a real-world learning experience and ongoing interactions with experts in their respective fields. In this sense, our new partnership presents a unique opportunity to learn firsthand from a global technological player, while offering Google a platform to engage with emerging talent and contribute to the future of tech policy and education”, said Enrico Letta, Dean of IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs.

“This collaboration with IE School of Politics, Economics, and Global Affairs underscores Google's commitment to skilling initiatives that are essential in the age of AI. Together, we're providing students with the tools and knowledge they need to address the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly evolving technological landscape,” highlighted Giorgia Abeltino, Senior Director, Government Affairs and Public Policy for South EU at Google.

The partnership was announced during the event "From Knowledge to Power: The Fifth Freedom and the Future of Global Political & Technological Innovation”, an insightful roundtable marking the official launching of the two new programs. The panel was hosted by Enrico Letta and Vice Dean Borja Santos, and included Giorgia Abeltino, Francisco Javier Moreno Fuentes, Vice President for International Affairs at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), and Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl, Director General of DIGITALEUROPE.

The Bachelor in Political Science is an innovative and interdisciplinary program that combines the fundamentals of political science, economics, and public administration with professional skills in leadership, management, and communication to empower students to become influential leaders. Through practical training in institutions and companies, and hands-on labs, students gain a comprehensive approach to policy-making. Partnerships with top-tier public and private institutions provide a world-class education, shaping students into effective leaders and innovators.

The Master in technology and Global Affairs takes a multidisciplinary approach to prepare future leaders to navigate the complex intersection of rapid technological change and governance. With a focus on international dynamics and an emphasis on politics and domestic public policy, this program places participants at the core of diplomacy and technology. Students will explore cutting-edge technologies such as AI, blockchain, biotech, urban tech, cybersecurity, and data analytics tools. The program dives into economic sectors where public and private merge, providing a gateway to a wide range of tech and governance career opportunities. It’s delivered by a global hub for diplomacy and tech thanks to IE School of Politics, Economics, and Global Affairs’ agreement with the Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator (GESDA).
