- Kazakhstan's Perspectives In A Changing World: A Dialogue With Kazakhstan's Ambassador To Spain
With a key geographical position, robust economic growth since the early 2000s, and important oil and gas reserves and other natural resources, the Republic of Kazakhstan is poised to play a crucial role in the ongoing reshaping of international relations as a regional power as well as a major trading partner with the rest of the world.
A former Soviet republic with a rich, multiethnic, multireligious and multilingual composition, Kazakhstan has consolidated its institutions since independence, established itself in the upper middle-income group, and projected a vision for 2050; yet it has also experienced a number of episodes of political instability.
A member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Eurasian Economic Union and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Kazakhstan is also a partner of the European Union through an Enhanced Cooperation and Partnership Agreement and maintains close cooperation with the United States in a number of domains.
This unique combination of international partnerships presents Kazakhstan with extraordinary opportunities, as well as challenges, to play a relevant role in the current circumstances marked by the tensions derived from the war in Ukraine.
The dialogue will address inter alia Kazakhstan´s economic prospects, specially the questions of connectivity, diversification and supply chains; the impact of the war in Ukraine; the consolidation and democratization of Kazakhstan´s institutions; the relationship with the European Union; and the role of Kazakhstan in its region and in the world.
