Capstone Project Success: Corporate Interest in Buying Master in Business Analytics & Big Data Students Solution

IE Master in Business Analytics & Big Data Students' Capstone Project captures Axion's interest in purchasing the final product.

This year’s final term Capstone Project propelled IE Master in Business Analytics and Big Data students into the spotlight, with a team of students gaining the company’s attention with their solution to a real-world challenge.

As part of IE School of Science and Technology’s strategic agreement with Axion-Lineox, students were asked to make recommendations for inorganic growth opportunities to acquire more radio links for Lineox, one of Axion’s sister companies. The students’ tailor-made tool was designed to analyze radio link data within Spain, enabling Lineox to uncover promising acquisition prospects. However, it was the students' ability to simulate various acquisition scenarios and evaluate their financial viability that truly set their project apart.

The Axion team started talks with the winning five-student team about acquiring their idea. In just a week, the best project received an invitation from Lineox to present their project to the C-level executives of Axion, the parent company.

“The Capstone project is important for IE students because it exposes them to real world problems, allowing them to implement skills that they have acquired at IE and at the same time to confront real world challenges that cannot be covered in class.  I congratulate the team members for their achievement,” said Prof. Nir Ailon, who mentored the group on their successful project.

Here are some insights from the winning team:

Alejandro Garcia-Valdecasas, dual degree Master in Management and Business Analytics and Big Data (2023):

“Our capstone project was an exciting opportunity for us to apply what we learned in the classroom to a real-world problem. It's incredibly rewarding to see that Lineox found our solution impressive and wants to take it to the next level.”

Álvaro López-Chacarra, Master in Business Analytics and Big Data (2023):

“We knew that our solution had potential, but we never expected it to lead to discussions with Lineox. It just goes to show that hard work and creative thinking can really pay off.”

Manon Stévenne, Master in Business Analytics and Big Data (2023):

“Working on this project was a great experience because it allowed us to collaborate as a team and tackle a complex problem from multiple angles. I'm proud of what we accomplished and excited to see where Lineox takes it from here.”

Mishari Aldukair, Master in Business Analytics and Big Data (2023):

“I'm honoured to have been a part of this project and to have worked alongside such talented individuals. It's been a great opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge we gained during our studies to a real-world problem and come up with a solution that has caught the attention of a company like Lineox. I'm excited to see where this takes us and the impact our project could have on Lineox’s expansion.”

Sahana Roy, dual degree Master in Management and Business Analytics and Big Data (2023):

“One of the things I appreciated about this project was the amount of research we had to do to really understand the radio link landscape in Spain. We dug deep into the data and consulted with experts to develop a solution that was both feasible and impactful. It's exciting to see that Lineox recognizes the potential of our work.”
