From Interns to Hires: Masters Students in Big Data and Business Analytics Secure Jobs at BMC
BMC hires two IE masters in Big Data and Business Analytics students after a five-month internship program in collaboration with IE School of Science and Technology.
In recent years, the job market for tech careers has been a rollercoaster ride, with a global spate of firings and hiring freezes, leaving many recent graduates struggling to land a job. However, for IE School of Science and Technology students the outlook is much brighter. In 2023, the QS World University rankings reveal that 97.4% of students who complete a program in the school secure job offers upon graduation.
IE's success in developing top talent for the tech industry was recently demonstrated by the full-time hiring of two Big Data and Business Analytics master students as Associate Solution Engineers at BMC Software. The positions are highly coveted, but those students “demonstrated commitment, presentation and selling skills, as well as a lot of knowledge in IT business areas,” according to José Luis Rubio, Solution Engineer Director at BMC.
BMC Software, a global leader in software solutions for IT, has recently launched an innovative program to attract and nurture top talent in the industry, as part of the wide-ranging partnership with IE School of Science and Technology. The initiative offers students the opportunity to discover BMC during a five-month internship program. “The idea is to support talent development to contribute to our sustainable growth plans,” said Rubio.
BMC’s six-month Graduate Academy allows interns to get hands-on experience, as well as learn BMC culture and internal processes across dozens of departments. Some interns will be invited to continue into permanent positions within the company’s international network of offices in 38 countries, as well as with its sister companies. Upon completion of their internships, two of the interning students were hired immediately as Associate Solution Engineers in the EMEA Region.
Maxime Caro, one of the hires explained, “my tasks revolve around preparing Executive Level and Technical Solution demos for potential clients from a range of industries to demonstrate the value of our platform relevant to their pain points.”
The company said it will add permanent hires to its talent pool in each internship cycle. The program is a win-win for both BMC and the sci-tech students. It provides students with a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in the IT industry and for BMC to identify and develop top talent.
Here are hires profiles:
Maxime Caro (Dual Degree Master in Management and Business Analytics & Big Data, 2023), said he had a steep learning curve going into the internship, but that he acquired important operational and management skills.
“The internship at BMC software was very rewarding. Not only was I introduced to new concepts and solutions within Service Management and AI Operations, I was part of a very collaborative team constantly pushing for innovation. We were lucky to have a well structured internship plan where we explored a variety of roles present at BMC: Sales, Pre-Sales, Customer Success as well as a quick overview of the HR and Legal Departments.”
Michel Viana (Master in Big Data and Business Analytics, 2023), said the opportunity was great to learn important skills, meet people involved in the BMC internship, and better understand corporate dynamics.
“I started my BMC internship not knowing what a value/solution engineer was. Throughout the internship, I learned a lot about Presales and Sales, but most importantly I learned about BMC as a company.”
