IE School of Science and Technology launched the IE Impact Xcelerator with the mission of filling the gap between technology researchers, entrepreneurs and industry leaders for global advancement and industry evolution.

The Impact Xcelerator acts as the School of Science and Technology’s outreach to corporate partners, addressing their needs and channeling projects via research and entrepreneurship according to the desired results.

Isabel Sanchez Emmerich heads the new initiative, which is part of the Catalyst network and harnesses faculty resources from IE University, Berkeley, Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, DTU, Melbourne University, Lund, HBKU Qatar, Prague VSE, and other institutions worldwide.

“I feel excited to lead the Impact Xcelerator as it is an innovative approach to education and real-life impact,” said Sanchez.

“The IX is an opportunity for students to evolve traditional STEM education and for industry leaders to bring unique insight and participate in what’s next.”

Organized across acceleration labs like the Metaverse, Health and Technology, Cybersecurity, Climate and Energy, and Financial Services, the Impact Xcelerator connects students, faculty and entrepreneurs with the objective of creating new ventures, corporate transformation, fresh research proposals and trending academic specializations. Within each lab, the Impact Xcelerator bridges entrepreneurship and traditional science research.

“There is a gap between academic research and industry needs. The Impact Xcelerator allows us to close that gap,” said Ikhlaq Sidhu, Dean of IE School of Science and Technology.

One of the first acts of the newly launched Xcelerator will be hosting the Catalyst Impact Lecture Series, starting Feb. 2. The series decodes today’s technology trends to predict future implications for business, research, and policy. Available to students at all collaborating universities and professionals worldwide, the lecture series will kick off with Touchcast founder and CEO Edo Segal.
