IE School of Science & Technology students wrap up Semester with winning projects for IE Venture Day and the IE Sustainability Datathon.

Students from the IE School of Science & Technology impressed the jurors at two of IE’s top challenges this December, pitching inspiring solutions to real-world problems.

Among the standout projects at the IE Venture Day was Swiper, developed by IE Sci-Tech and business students Tomas Ward, Fiona Novak, and Sofia Di Franco. A groundbreaking app designed to streamline connections between employers and top talent, Swiper claimed the title of Best Startup for the School of Sci-Tech. Notable for its feature, the Human ID, Swiper allows employers to see the person behind the CV, bringing a human touch to the recruitment process.

The team shone as it pitched its ideas to a jury of entrepreneurship experts and international investors, culminating the work of the IE Venture Lab this semester. Of the more than 100 teams that presented their startup projects in this demanding competition, only 10 made it to the finals.

IE sci-tech students make their mark during IE Venture Day and IE Sustainability Datathon eventsAddressing some of the most urgent sustainability challenges at the IE Sustainability Datathon, notably the global shift to renewable energy, Sci-Tech students pitched to this edition’s sponsors of EDP, Europe's largest energy supplier. EDP tasked the students with producing precise market forecasts for the UK in order to optimize battery energy storage systems (BESS). The goal was to maximize profitability while efficiently allocating renewable energy, supporting a smooth transition to a clean energy system. Over three weeks, teams collaborated with industry mentors and participated in skill-building workshops.

In a nail-biting finale the winning team, Sustainablers, and two runners-up, Dream Team and Fura Renewal, all developed and pitched innovative sustainable solutions using data analytics and predictive modeling.

These two IE Challenges, Venture Day 2024 and the Sustainability Datathon, are designed to inspire students to use their talent and creativity to develop real-world solutions. Congratulations to Swiper, Sustainablers, Dream Team, Fura Renewals, and all participating teams. As 2025 approaches, the School of Sci-Tech looks forward to seeing what how these impressive ideas will grow – and what new gems our budding entrepreneurs and tech innovators will come up with next year!
