Students from IE Sci-Tech School Participate in the AI Hackathon
Jacobo Pablos Menges, CEO of Foqum Analytics handed winners cash prizes.
IE School of Science and Technology hosted the AI Hackathon in collaboration with Foqum Analytics where students used AI to solve real-world business problems, with top winners granted cash prizes.
Participants of the competition created a smart document algorithm using large language models (LLMs) to extract financial data from term sheets efficiently.
The winning teams took home cash prizes of €1500 for first place and €250 for second and third places. The top honors went to DevSquad Trinity, which achieved a 97.3% accuracy score for their code, while teams 123 and Shabab had a 96.7% and 96.0% scores, respectively.
Erick Portales, a member of the winning DevSquad Trinity team and a student in the dual degree of Bachelor in Business Administration and Data and Business Analytics (BBADBA) described the challenges his team faced.
“The most challenging aspect was bridging the gap between our expertise in data analytics and the demands of a computer science challenge,” Portales said. “This required applying our theoretical knowledge to a new domain, which was both demanding and rewarding.”
Jacobo Pablos Menges, CEO of Foqum Analytics was impressed by the participants’ work.
“We are quite impressed with the work that you have done,” he told the participating students.
Sören Zimmer, also a member of DevSquad Trinity and a student of the BBADBA degree, talked about the practical experience his team gained from the competition.
“We participated in the hackathon to gain practical experience. It was an opportunity to work on a project with tangible outcomes and to see how theoretical concepts can be transformed into real-world solutions,” Zimmer said.
Academic Director Robert Polding congratulated the 33 participating teams for their effort and skills which they developed.
