Environmental Impact
At IE University, we are contributing to the fight against climate change by educating and inspiring the next leaders in climate action. Through curricula and academia, club activities, initiatives, student projects and significant local, national and international partnerships, we are fostering a broader perspective on the climate crisis and supporting global efforts to lower carbon emissions and increase the rate of climate action.
After our 2022 Sustainability Challenge “Carbon Footprint” we became Carbon Neutral.
PROJECTS
Some of the projects that we have been sponsoring and supporting through the Sustainability Office include vertical farming, urban farms, replanting new species and an upcoming waste management facility spearheaded by Cem Sinan Kayatekin, one of our faculty members at IE School of Architecture and Design in our Segovia campus.
The Nurture Hub
The Nurture Hub is a project founded by two IE University Bachelor in Design students, Adelaida Balthazar and Rafaela Valencia-Dongo, and their faculty mentor, Manuel Quirós. It's powered by the IE Sustainability Office, IE School of Architecture & Design and IE Campus Life.
The project aims to impact the everyday student experience, while enhancing the biodiversity that surrounds IE University in Segovia by attracting indigenous pollinators such as butterflies. Join us in the last phase of the process by attending a hands-on planting workshop and learn more about the importance of biodiversity!
PARTNERS FOR CLIMATE IMPACT
Tackling the climate crisis requires global cooperation on an unprecedented scale. Effective partnerships can and should accelerate an institution’s work on climate action. IE University collaborates with various UN organizations, government agencies, the private sector, foundations, universities, NGOs and others. We believe it is through these collaborations—combining multiple disciplines and talent—that we can generate more action and greater impact.
OUR CAMPUS IS LEED CERTIFIED
The IE Tower is a global landmark for academic innovation and learning technology that faces the challenges of urban real estate development head on.
The result is an innovative, vertical learning space, which seamlessly integrates AI, VR and AR elements into technology hubs and future-ready classrooms.
All of our sustainability considerations have earned IE Tower the coveted LEED Gold certification.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. Available for virtually all building types, LEED provides a framework for healthy, highly efficient and cost-saving green buildings.
SUSTAINABILITY WEEK
Every year our students, faculty and staff gather to celebrate the IE Sustainability Week to promote environmental and social projects andactivities. In 2022 we launched our annual tree planting as part of the Sustainability Week .
