IE Business School’s Master in Finance is carefully crafted to have the maximum positive impact on students and their future employability. In close collaboration with the IE Talent & Careers Department, the program hosts a number of activities and events dedicated to developing students’ career prospects.
These activities ensure that students have access to a wide range of resources that cover everything from current events in the business world to networking to the nitty-gritty of optimizing CVs and cover letters.
Career activities abound: How can you get involved?
Whether you are a seasoned business professional or still at the start of your career, IE Talent & Careers has the tools to help you achieve your goals.
One of the most accessible events that you can attend to get started is the monthly Economic Updates sessions hosted by Ignacio de la Torre, Partner and Chief Economist at the Spanish Investment Bank, Arcano Partners. In these sessions, students can participate in discussions regarding the most pertinent macro- and microeconomic events impacting the market. Topics range from inflation to economic growth, bank solvency, M&A trends and commodities evolution. The Economic Updates are also a great way to meet others from IE Business School and expand your social and professional networks.
Students can also use avail of numerous personalized services directly with IE Talent and Careers advisors.
Our one-on-one Career Advising Sessions allow students to hone in on their passions and goals to understand how to translate these into meaningful career choices.
Once they have determined their desired trajectory, students can access countless job opportunities on the IE Career Portal and work alongside their advisor to perfect their CV, cover letter, application strategy and interview skills.
In addition, the IE Talent & Careers Department also hosts numerous networking and recruitment events to put students in direct contact with employers. In these spaces, students can approach employers to learn more about the roles available, internship opportunities and the types of profiles they are looking for in new hires.
Workshops are held by top finance firms, and recent networking events have seen recruiters from JP Morgan, Deutsche Bank, Morgan Stanley, Citi and Barclays.
For female students, the Women in Finance initiative serves as a vital resource to learn more about the ever-increasing space for female industry professionals. Through dedicated events, IE University students can network with working women in finance to learn more about how the industry is changing and what opportunities there are to further promote inclusion and equality.
Opportunities are integrated into the Master in Finance curriculum
The Master in Finance degree has been designed to integrate foundational career-building skills into the program itself. Beyond the core modules and the required modules for the specialization track students choose from Investment Banking and Private Equity, Real Estate Finance & Alternative Investments, Global Markets and Asset Management, or Finance Analytics & Digital Finance, students also engage with content designed with their future employability in mind.
During the one-year master’s program, students complete modules dedicated to boosting career development, such as Investment Banking & Corporate Finance, Investment & Asset Management, Private Equity, Hedge Funds, ESG, Derivatives and FinTech.
Training students in the most cutting-edge industry knowledge and trends means that they will graduate fully equipped to hit the ground running in their chosen field.
Students also complete the Employability in Finance module, where they are coached by experts from the IE Talent & Careers Department on a variety of topics. These interactions consist of highly technical sessions related to finance, ranging from how to prepare an effective CV, crafting a cover letter, networking effectively and how to prepare for the Assessment Center simulation. Students are also presented with the chance to liaise with external industry professionals to better understand how different sub-sectors of the finance industry work.
Finally, students can also take advantage of the one-to-one mentoring program that has been formulated specifically for the Master in Finance. Through this opportunity, students can pair up with an experienced industry professional who offers guidance and knowledge to help their mentee down the path to realizing their dream career.
