IE School of Humanities celebrates our past, present and future with programs that train decision-makers to shape the world of tomorrow.
The humanities are undeniably important, allowing us to better understand ourselves as humans and the world we live in.
At IE University, we’ve been a pioneer in higher education over the past 50 years, and we decided it was time to look at the world through a new lens.
We take pride in the interdisciplinary programs we offer, encouraging our students to use the humanities to drive better decision-making. Now we’ve taken this a step further and have created a new school dedicated to exactly that: IE School of Humanities.
IE School of Humanities offers our students a new way to look at the world, weaving together diversity, technology and a global vision to expose our students to different worldviews on philosophy, history, the arts, culture and the human experience.
Humanities for the future
By studying the humanities, IE University students will learn how to best impact the future to drive positive change. It is only by looking at our past that we will be able to progress towards a brighter future.
In a rapidly changing world, it’s more necessary than ever before to understand the humanities. Thanks to emerging technologies, everything around us is in flux, from how we engage with each other to the nature of jobs and the meaning of culture. And with this change comes a series of ethical questions that we need to address. With this in mind, each and every program at IE School of Humanities is designed to be relevant to the 21st century.
Studying the humanities opens students’ eyes to the world around them to help them address our reality.
Using the critical thinking skills that come with studying the humanities, IE School of Humanities students will be uniquely positioned to drive positive change and lead the world to a brighter tomorrow.
Of course, it’s not just IE School of Humanities students who will benefit. The humanities will serve everyone as we move forward and shape the future. To this end, IE School of Humanities has partnered with other IE University schools to extend its impact and boost teaching and research opportunities.
No matter which industry students go on to work in, whether it’s communications & marketing, business, arts & culture, or technology, they will be equipped with the skill set and critical thinking capacity to navigate where technology and the humanities intersect. The better we understand where we’ve come from, the better path we can forge toward the future.
Collaborating to provide practical immersion
It’s part of our mission to provide students with exciting extracurricular experiences and practical immersion in what life has to offer post-graduation.
With this in mind, IE School of Humanities collaborates with a variety of renowned arts and culture institutions across the world to provide students with both curricular and extracurricular experiences and practical immersion into exciting projects and initiatives in arts, culture, management and digital applications. From our classrooms in Madrid to Segovia, students are in a privileged position to not only learn about history, art, architecture and more, but also experience it directly from the source.
The close collaboration between IE School of Humanities and UNESCO is built upon several areas of common interest, including the ethics of artificial intelligence and social transformations driven by technology and innovation.
It recognizes the pivotal role of the humanities in addressing pressing global challenges and encourages students to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world contexts through informative sessions, talks, workshops, applied projects or mentorship.
The IE School of Humanities also works together with the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, the Instituto Cervantes, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, as well as the José Ortega y Gasset-Gregorio Marañón Foundation (FOM), and the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofia, and the Fundación Telefonica among others.
