What's the ethical code for AI leadership in the modern age?

4 min read

Do you know how to be a good boss? Without AI leadership tools, the likelihood is no. To help you out, we’ve compiled expert insights from Maria Caruso—a student of our International MBA and recent winner of the 2024 CoBS Student CSR Article Competition—to examine how the top AI leadership tools are supercharging tomorrow’s leaders. This involves sustainability, ethics and much more.

AI leadership tools shaping modern industries

There’s an array of AI leadership tools on the market already. For C-suite executives whose workload is already at capacity, this is welcome news. Let’s take a look at some of the best Artificial Intelligence tools out there.

DataRobot is an AI platform that allows leaders to make better decisions by using data manipulation and automated machine learning. Leaders can use its predictive analytics to guide company policy.  You also have H2O.ai, an open-source AI platform that supports advanced machine learning to produce sophisticated data analysis. Then we have Fivetran, a radical AI tool that offers real-time insights for strategic decision-making.

It’s not all about strategy—AI leadership tools can also offer a holistic understanding of what it means to be a leader.

The coaching platform BetterUp uses Artificial Intelligence to craft personalized leadership lessons which include tips on productivity, well-being and emotional intelligence.

Maria Caruso: first place in the 2024 CoBS Student CSR Article Competition

The Council on Business & Society Insights (COBS) provides weekly thought leadership insights on responsible business, CSR and sustainability. Their 2024 Student CSR Article Competition challenged participants to “step up and re-write the world”, receiving submissions from top business schools across the world. Winners received a cash prize and publication in June’s special issue of Global Voice magazine.

Our current student Maria Caruso wrote under the category “AI in People Management: Friend or Foe.” Her shrewd take focused on the benefits of GenAI and its potential to maximize efficiency at every level. That means cutting down “time-consuming sorting of emails” to allowing leaders to “focus on reskilling, upskilling, and creating hybrid roles that combine human intuition with AI-driven insights.”

Learning how to be a good boss with up-to-date AI leadership tools

According to Maria, “What started out with playing on ChatGPT, getting travel itineraries or creating images, is now raising questions on the potential to redefine how businesses operate and how to weave this digital companion into the workplace. PwC predicts that AI could contribute up to $15.7 trillion to the global economy in 2030 (PwC, 2017).”

“Research by the World Economic Forum (WEF) also found that LLMs could augment many roles, offering the potential for job growth (WEF, 2024). The penetration of the technology has been too fast to ignore and GenAI is already on the agenda of companies’ boardrooms (McKinsey, 2023).”

How to be a good boss with Artificial Intelligence leadership

As Maria brilliantly argues, those wondering how to be a good boss must start by empowering their workers: “As the workforce adapts to the integration of AI, leaders must also adapt their approach to effectively guide their teams through this transition.” Strong AI leadership revolves around upskilling in tandem with the newest technology—and allowing innovation to bloom throughout the company. This is being reflected across the newest HR trends of the last year.

Let’s take things a step further: if you’re wondering how to be a great boss, then you need to incorporate sustainability and ethics into your daily practices. AI leadership will speed up productivity, but it must be used responsibly. This requires developing your critical thinking, creativity and moral compass.

AI leadership is about enhancing employee performance, not replacing it altogether.
