Adrián González
I am a Spaniard, born in Madrid. I’ve always liked comics a lot—I have a huge collection. I also enjoy movies, TV shows and traveling. I have visited more than 40 countries and always try to find time to discover new places and disconnect. Because of my career, I'm converting my profession in artificial intelligence and data into a hobby. I'm always learning, teaching and discussing it, and I'm currently writing a couple of books and creating online courses to encourage people to join this wonderful industry.
"The Bachelor in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence is pretty special. I wish I could have studied something like this."
Shaping the next generation of AI professionals
If you want something, go get it. This is the philosophy that’s defined Adrián González throughout his life, shaping his approach to education, professional development and more. After an idyllic childhood in Madrid, he began his academic path at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, where he studied Telecommunications and Telematics Engineering. Soon, Adrián moved to France to pursue a Master of Science in Telecommunications at ParisTech, then to Canada for his MBA from HEC Montréal.
Adrián has leveraged his skills to build an impressive career around artificial intelligence and data. As a frontline thought leader in AI, he has always enjoyed a global profile. His focus now is to pass on his knowledge, authoring books on the subject and creating university and online courses for students in Spain, Canada, the US and more. He also teaches in IE University’s Bachelor in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence program.
“I wish I could have studied something like this at university,” Adrián admits. That’s because the program arms students with a comprehensive skill set that inspires innovation and creative, transformative digital technologies for business and industry. “Students can expect a mix of computer science, software development, cloud and AI—anything that a modern technology professional might need to succeed in this competitive work environment,” he explains.
Adrián’s reasons for deciding to teach in the Bachelor in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence were twofold. He believes education provides the best avenue for developing the profession. So he was eager to play his part in this growth by harnessing his own extensive academic and professional experiences to train a new generation of AI professionals. But, perhaps more importantly, “Because talent is scarce,” he says. With demand for a skilled labor pool on the rise, Adrián saw the program as a unique opportunity to start shaping the industry right from the start: at the underground level.
Reports show that artificial intelligence is expected to create 133 million jobs by 2030, so the time is ripe for any ambitious, forward-thinking professional to get into this exciting field. With insider insight and a finger on the industry’s pulse, Adrián knows that students with IT, computer science, software development, AI and other technical skills can occupy a variety of competitive roles. “These skills are required by all sorts of companies,” he says, “And they are universal, so students can leverage them wherever they want.” For instance, those focusing on data and AI can find great opportunities in data science, data engineering and even architecture; while other students may go on to take tactical roles in AI project management, technical presales and so much more. “The sky's the limit!”
Adrián hopes to effectively communicate the possibilities to his fourth-year students in the program. His class on Project Management and Innovation has become especially popular among participants because of its inventive blend of business and technology. As he explains, “The idea is to impart business skills to technical students.” By the end of this class, they will possess the know-how to design, plan and sell their computer science and AI projects, all while incorporating a new pragmatic and industry-oriented toolkit for their career goals.
For Adrián, the Bachelor in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence is simply the next step in a career spent pioneering emerging technologies. He advises students to make the most of the program, as well as the first years of their professional journey by focusing on their dreams and working hard to make them happen. After all, “If you want something, go get it.”
