About me

I’m from Madrid, but I’ve studied in London at Central Saint Martin’s and in the US at MIT as well as in Spain. I have almost 20 years’ experience in the fashion and design industry. In my work I help clients transform outdated business models, recognize emerging social and market demands and be more resilient as organizations. At IE School of Architecture & Design I teach students essential creative skills, such as design thinking.

More than a job: a passion

Baruc Corazón has always had what he calls "a 360-degree understanding" of the fashion industry because, from the start of his educational career, he focused on the business aspects of the sector as much as the creative side.

Having studied fashion at Central Saint Martin’s in London and law and business at ICADE, he quickly understood the creative, business, social and cultural implications of the sector. Describing that rounded education as "instrumental" in shaping his approach, he not only has his own brand—he also provides thought leadership through influential articles and essays, and advises on fashion and textile projects for leaders in the field.

He now brings that all-round insight to the classrooms of IE School of Architecture & Design, where he has been part of what he describes as "the birth and evolution of a new fashion program." His position as a professor in the Bachelor in Fashion Design is, he says, "a wonderful opportunity to contribute, share and promote a complete and realistic vision of the sector and its far-reaching implications."

Driven by a career-long desire to give back to society, Baruc sees teaching as a natural extension of his work, both academically and professionally. Asked to pinpoint a specific moment when he realized his passion for teaching, he cites the early stages of his teaching career in Chicago in 1999. The experience not only reinforced his belief in the power of education, it even prompted him to consider taking a permanent teaching position.

Ultimately, Baruc decided active professional work was the best way he could impart relevant and holistic understanding of the industry to the classroom. And it’s that passion, firsthand knowledge and realism that he brings to students of the Bachelor in Fashion Design today.

It’s been quite a career, too. After launching his own eponymous brand, he soon realized the importance of gaining a deeper understanding of the inner workings of the established fashion and luxury goods houses. He quickly gained that insight by working with iconic names like Missoni, Jesús del Pozo, Hermès and Loewe. For Baruc, this was a valuable lesson in sector leaders’ operations and brand strategies.

He has also made contributions to leading publications including Vogue and El Mundo, directed and presented Spanish television art and design show "DeFormas" for six years, and then launched another brand in his own name. Noting that his design philosophy has evolved over time, Baruc embraces the concepts of timelessness and unisex appeal while still pursuing his core interest: the intersection of society and creativity.

He’s particularly captivated by how design and creative work can make a real difference in the world, and is driven by a desire to use his skills and extensive experience to make a positive contribution to society. Perhaps that’s why he’s so enthusiastic about teaching—for Baruc it’s not just a job, it’s a way to align his passions with his professional life. This, he says, keeps him motivated and allows him to take on every task with complete commitment and energy.

Looking to the future, he has a keen interest in the study of consciousness, which he sees as pivotal to future scientific exploration and destined to "intertwine with philosophical inquiry." His future aim in both teaching and fashion is to pass on holistic and conscious understanding of the values that he believes underpin the sector: creativity, craftsmanship and social responsibility. Baruc believes that strong foundations in art and traditional crafts are essential for developing truly innovative and meaningful designs.

Understanding the interconnectedness of all these aspects—which are studied in the Bachelor in Fashion Design—will be fundamental to unlocking the creative potential he sees in our students. Baruc encourages them to drive positive change through their careers. He urges them to apply the same broad perspective that he does to the challenges they’ll face, and to leverage their creative powers to develop innovative and impactful solutions.

That’s exactly what the Bachelor in Fashion Design is all about. We can’t wait to see the results of Baruc’s teaching, and his students’ creative energies.
