Evangelina Julia
I was born in Madrid and I now live and work here as a fashion designer and artist. I began working in the fashion world in 2012 when I was recruited as a model. I moved to London in 2016 to study a foundation degree in art and design, and later decided to pursue a bachelor’s degree in fashion design and development. In 2020, I founded my fashion label, Evade House, a pioneering lifestyle and creative brand committed to merging sustainability, innovation and community. My main medium is clothing but I also use other creative languages such as acting, video and painting to build a complete story. In my free time, I enjoy watching movies and I recently enjoyed “Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring” by Kim Ki-duk, “Salon Kitty” by Tinto Brass, and “Irezumi” by Yasuzō Masumura.
"Fashion design is a vibrant and multifaceted discipline that extends beyond creating clothing and accessories."
Working toward a more sustainable and ethical future in the world of fashion
Evangelina Julia has always had a clear vision for the contribution she wants to make to the fashion industry, and ethics and sustainability play a key role. Introduced to the industry at a young age through her work as a model, she quickly felt the oppressive nature of its “models don’t talk” attitude and felt called to push back and ensure that she had a choice in what she was wearing. This led her to pursue her studies in fashion, with her bachelor’s degree culminating in the establishment of her brand, Evade House.
At the heart of Evade House is a deep respect for the environment and a passion for ethical production: fair labor practices, supporting artisan communities and nurturing partnerships that honor both humanity and nature. The brand’s dedication to sustainability reaches beyond simply reducing negative effects; it aims to effect positive change in the fashion industry and minimize its carbon footprint, while also promoting environmental consciousness, celebrating heritage and craftsmanship, and fostering innovation.
To this end, Evade House prioritizes sustainable materials—organic, recycled and innovative alternatives—and challenges the throwaway culture that has become so prevalent in society today. “Our design ethos emphasizes timeless, versatile pieces that defy the transient nature of fast fashion, thereby reducing waste,” she explains.
Evangelina sees the fashion industry as being at the crossroads of significant change and believes that its future role will be multifaceted, where the social, environmental, technological and economic dimensions of society intertwine. As she sees it, fashion will be at the forefront of promoting sustainability and responsible consumption. She believes that technology will become a vital tool in fashion, both from the point of view of revolutionizing design, production and wearability, and the redefinition of the retail experience through augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR).
Beyond that, Evangelina believes that fashion will continue to be a powerful medium for cultural expression, social commentary and political discourse: “Through fashion, individuals and communities will communicate their identities, beliefs and aspirations, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of diversity.”
Crucial to all of this will be fashion’s role in education and awareness. Evangelina considers the opportunity to join the faculty of the Bachelor in Fashion Design “an honor and a duty.” Driven by a desire to impart her expertise in sustainable and innovative fashion to the next generation of designers, she aims to inspire students to redefine the industry’s limits and pursue careers that not only embody creativity but also contribute positively to the planet.
Recognizing IE University’s reputation for innovation, entrepreneurship and global perspectives—principles that align with her own personal and professional ethos—she sees a chance to not only teach fashion design but also to weave sustainable and ethical practices into the fabric of creative work. From a personal development perspective, she feels sure that the continuous learning and the dialog with students will help to enrich her own approach to fashion, all in an environment that lends itself perfectly to exploring new ideas.
Evangelina highlights the increasing importance of the Bachelor in Fashion Design in today’s world. The program is designed to equip students with the skills they need to navigate and influence the complex shifts that the industry is going through. This encompasses sustainability and ethical considerations; technological advancements; cultural relevance; economic impact; artistic expression and innovation; and adaptability to change. Students can expect a holistic education that sharpens their design prowess and enriches their comprehension of the global fashion scene.
As part of the program and the wider IE Community, students will find themselves in a dynamic and creative environment where they are encouraged to drive change and contribute to the evolution of the fashion industry. Through practical, hands-on learning experiences, students gain the skills that will enable them to access a wide range of exciting career opportunities. These include working as a fashion or textile designer, fashion buyer, sustainability consultant, fashion tech entrepreneur or fashion supply chain manager, to name a few.
And far from simply filling these roles, Evangelina emphasizes that graduates will have the opportunity to redefine them: “Graduates will have the skills and vision to push the boundaries of what's possible in fashion, making significant contributions to the industry and potentially pioneering new disciplines within it.” As well as continuing to make her own mark on the fashion industry, Evangelina is ready to share her wide-ranging experience and knowledge to inspire the next generation of changemakers.
